A former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has stated that by now His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu must be fully aware of the expectations of millions of Nigerians accross the country calling on him to throw in his hat to contest for the presidency in 2023.
This reaction was coming from the strong convictions that if voted to power, Tinubu's administration will be more assuring and that he will as well continue with the good works and the enduring legagies that he left in Lagos when he held sway as the Governor with the assurance that those amazing virtues could be as well replicated across Nigeria to ensure that the country is transformed and citizens can feel the impacts of excellence governance and political socio-economically transformation.
Hon. Makinde is one of the foundation members of South West Agenda [SWAGA] being led by Sen Dayo Adeyeye and others ,its a grassroots political platform clamouring for the candidature of former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Makinde said, "We believe he is competent, well exposed, experienced, visionary and also with the right qualities so needed to transform the economy of this country positively. Asiwaju has the capability and the character to do this job.
While fielding questions further from journalists in Damaturu on what if Asiwaju turn down pleas or pressures from SWAGA and other relevant stakeholders to run for President in 2023, the former lawmaker frowned and said:
"Asiwaju cannot afford to reject our cries and ignore the call of numerous opinion leaders, perception managers/influencers, custodians of traditional institutions in Yoruba land and by extension millions of Nigerians calling on him to take up the mantle of leadership. With all sense of modesty, and as one of his disciples and mentees, I make bold to say he dare not! He is the best man for the job and course victory is on his side, even those outside APC will give him their votes. That is the truth"
Makinde added, "One cannot discuss Tinubu’s sterling credentials for the highest political job in the land in the narrow purview of politics. To be fair to Tinubu, one must leave politics and sentiments behind and deal with glaring realities of the difference he has made in people’s lives, in expanding economic opportunities, in the transformation of his state’s physical infrastructure, and in steering Nigeria into a new and progressive course. His politics is better reflected in the context of his socio-economic objectives while he has excelled in tackling these noble tasks."
