— TESCOM says another batch completing internship in December may also secure permanent employment
ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has confirmed the permanent employment of OgunTeach interns who have successfully completed the mandatory two-year internship programme.
The disclosure was made as the Ogun State House of Assembly intensified its appraisal of the implementation of the 2026 Appropriation Law, with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) appearing before the lawmakers to account for their half-year budget performance.
TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Mr. Idowu Onasanya, made the disclosure while presenting the Commission’s performance before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Musefiu Lamidi, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Onasanya said the Commission had concluded the necessary process for the permanent employment of OgunTeach interns who had completed the required two-year internship period.
He added that another batch of OgunTeach interns expected to complete their internship programme by December 2026 would also be considered for permanent employment, subject to the applicable government procedures and approvals.
The development is expected to further strengthen the state’s teaching workforce and provide greater job security for beneficiaries of the OgunTeach intervention, which was introduced to support the recruitment and development of teachers for public schools across the state.
Promotion Exercises Underway
Giving further details on the Commission’s activities, Onasanya disclosed that promotional exercises for teaching service personnel for 2023 and 2024 had been successfully carried out.
He, however, noted that preparations were being made for the 2025 and 2026 promotion exercises, which would be conducted subject to the approval of the Ogun State Government.
The Permanent Secretary also disclosed that preparations were already underway for the 2027 recruitment exercise, signalling the Commission’s continued effort to maintain an adequate teaching workforce in the state’s public schools.
The lawmakers sought clarification on the Commission’s programmes, expenditure and personnel-related activities as part of the ongoing assessment of the extent to which budgetary provisions had translated into tangible outcomes during the first half of the year.
Polytechnics Also Appear Before Lawmakers
The Assembly’s budget appraisal also featured an interface with the management teams of two state-owned tertiary institutions.
The management of Abraham Adesanya ICT Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, appeared before the lawmakers, led by its Deputy Rector, Dr. Sherifat Akindele.
Also appearing was the management of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, which was represented by its Bursar, Mr. Julius Ayodele.
The institutions presented their respective budget performances and responded to questions from members of the House committee as the Assembly continued its scrutiny of government expenditure and programme implementation.
The exercise is aimed at ensuring accountability, fiscal discipline and effective utilisation of public funds across the state’s MDAs.
Forestry Agencies Appraised
Other government institutions whose activities came under the Assembly’s half-year budget performance review included the Ogun State Ministry of Forestry and the Forestry Plantation Project in Area J4.
The appraisal forms part of the Assembly’s constitutional oversight responsibility, providing lawmakers with an opportunity to evaluate the implementation of the state’s 2026 budget, identify challenges affecting government programmes and make recommendations where necessary.
The ongoing exercise underscores the Assembly’s emphasis on monitoring the implementation of government policies and programmes while ensuring that appropriated funds are deployed in line with approved priorities.
With TESCOM confirming the permanent absorption of completed OgunTeach interns and preparations ongoing for subsequent recruitment and promotion exercises, the development is expected to have significant implications for the state’s education sector, particularly in addressing teacher manpower needs and improving the stability of the teaching workforce.
