OBAFEMI OWODE — Decades of acute water scarcity and dilapidated educational infrastructure in parts of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have come to an end following the official commissioning of a series of life-changing projects executed by the Executive Chairman, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA.
The council chairman led key local government officials and community leaders on a multi-project commissioning tour spanning Ibu Alufa, Owojo, Mowe, and the council secretariat, delivering on key promises aimed at improving rural livelihoods and the standard of basic education.
End to Decades of Stream Water Reliance
At Ibu Alufa community in Ajura Ward, joy resounded as Amb. Ogunsola officially commissioned a modern motorized borehole equipped with a power generator to guarantee an uninterrupted clean water supply.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ogunsola noted that the project marks the total elimination of the community’s historical reliance on unsafe stream water. He used the occasion to laud the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the ongoing asphalt road construction linking Ajura Ward through Ibu Alufa to the Ikanna-Oluwo axis—a major federal intervention set to boost economic connectivity in the area.
Expressing deep relief, the Baale of Ibu Alufa, High Chief Bilihaminu Kasali Omoyele Jinandu, revealed that the local stream had been the sole water source for generations, predating his birth. He hailed the chairman’s intervention as a historic milestone and assured the council administration and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of the community's unwavering backing in future elections.
Educational Uplift in Owojo and Mowe
Prioritizing basic education, the council leadership moved to St. John’s Primary School, Owojo in Ajebo Ward, to commission a fully furnished block of two classrooms and an administrative office.
Reflecting on the intervention, Ogunsola recalled how a previous unscheduled visit exposed him to the deplorable conditions under which pupils were learning. "This marks our third classroom project in Ajebo Ward alone, underscoring our firm commitment to creating modern learning spaces across every corner of Obafemi Owode," he declared.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Akinola Owolabi Olatomi, expressed immense gratitude, disclosing that the new facility has already spurred an influx of new pupil enrolments from neighboring villages ahead of the upcoming academic session.
The project train subsequently docked at N.U.D Primary School, Mowe, where Ogunsola opened a newly constructed three-classroom block. The school's head teacher, Mr. Keefa Kehinde Ige, commended the local government for addressing classroom congestion, stating that the new block would dramatically raise teaching and learning standards.
Staff Welfare Boosted at Council Headquarters
Beyond community infrastructure, the administration demonstrated its commitment to civil service performance by commissioning newly renovated administrative offices at the local government secretariat. The upgrade covers the Information, Education, and Agriculture departments, creating a more conducive environment for staff efficiency.
