The second phase of the 1,000 solar-powered streetlights initiative facilitated by Rt Hon Olumide Osoba, Member of the House of Representatives representing Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency, is progressing across the constituency, with more communities benefiting from the ongoing installation exercise.

The initiative, which covers the three local government areas that make up the Federal Constituency, is aimed at extending the benefits of improved public lighting to communities across all 38 wards. Following the successful distribution and installation of the first batch of 1,000 solar-powered streetlights, the second phase is now underway to expand coverage and bring the intervention to more locations.

In Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, installation under the current phase has been completed at Obafe Township and Agborun Township in Obafemi Ward 10. Other locations that have benefited from the ongoing rollout include Ajebo Central in Ward 11, Alapako Oni in Ward 12, Wasinmi Araromi Mile 6 in Egbeda Ward 8, as well as Mile 8 Township and Odo-Ijesa Township in Kajola Ward 9.

Arepo and other communities across the Federal Constituency are also part of the wider rollout as the installation exercise continues towards achieving coverage across all 38 wards of his Federal Constituency. Under this phase, between 10 and 12 solar-powered streetlight poles are being installed in each locations, extending illumination to multiple locations within the beneficiary communities.

Beyond improving visibility at night, the project is expected to enhance public safety, support the movement of residents and create a more conducive environment for commercial activities. Traders, artisans and small business owners stand to benefit from better-lit surroundings that can encourage evening trading, while residents can enjoy improved visibility and greater confidence when moving around their communities after dark.

The initiative has attracted positive reactions from residents, who have welcomed the extension of solar-powered streetlights to their communities. The reception reflects public appreciation for development projects that address everyday needs and deliver visible benefits at the grassroots.

For Osoba, the continued rollout represents an ongoing commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through practical constituency interventions. The expansion of the initiative demonstrates the importance of sustaining people-oriented projects that contribute to community development, improve living conditions and support local economic activities.

As the second phase progresses across Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda, the objective remains to extend the benefits of improved street lighting to communities throughout the Federal Constituency. The project also highlights the role of responsive representation in translating public expectations into tangible development outcomes.

With installations continuing across the 38 wards, residents' positive reception of the initiative reinforces the value of effective representation and the importance of sustaining support for leadership committed to delivering meaningful dividends of democracy.
