…Urges Sanusi, Ademokun to Prioritise Ogun’s Interest, Sustain Ongoing Projects
ABEOKUTA — Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has sworn in two new commissioners, Mr Olayemi Sanusi and Mrs Adenike Ademokun, charging them to place the collective interest of the state above personal ambitions, political differences and sectional considerations.
The governor gave the charge on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, where he emphasised the need for integrity, accountability, humility and a renewed commitment to public service as his administration approaches the final phase of its tenure.
Abiodun said the appointments came at a critical period when the government must consolidate its achievements, address outstanding priorities and ensure that its policies and programmes continued to deliver measurable benefits to residents across the state.
He urged the newly appointed commissioners to regard their positions as opportunities to serve the people rather than privileges to be enjoyed, stressing that the success of their assignments would be determined by their ability to translate government policies into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
According to the governor, public officeholders must remain accessible to the people, listen attentively to their concerns and respond to their needs with fairness, prudence and a strong sense of responsibility.
He further charged them to exercise caution in the management of public resources, noting that responsible stewardship, transparency and effective administration were essential to sustaining public confidence in government.
“Public confidence grows when citizens can see that those they entrusted with leadership understand their needs and act to address them,” Abiodun said.
The governor also underscored the importance of continuity in governance, urging the commissioners to preserve institutional knowledge, maintain accurate records and ensure that ongoing projects and programmes were not abandoned or unnecessarily delayed.
He advised the new members of the State Executive Council to familiarise themselves with the priorities of his administration, assess the progress of existing projects and identify areas requiring urgent attention.
Abiodun said their appointments should bring fresh energy, sound judgment and a greater sense of urgency to governance, adding that their individual contributions would be crucial to achieving the administration’s remaining objectives.
He also called for stronger collaboration among ministries, departments and agencies, urging the commissioners to promote teamwork, respect the professionalism of the civil service and build effective working relationships with officials under their supervision.
The governor maintained that leadership required more than the possession of authority, explaining that the ability to listen, inspire confidence, make informed decisions and deliver practical solutions remained central to effective governance.
He encouraged Sanusi and Ademokun to bring their professional experience to bear on their responsibilities while remaining open to learning from colleagues and career civil servants.
“Your ability to listen, inspire confidence, make informed decisions and translate policies into outcomes will determine the contribution you make to our collective mission.
“Bring your experience to bear, remain willing to learn and support your colleagues in the pursuit of common objectives,” he said.
Final Lap Requires Urgency, Discipline
Describing the current period as the final lap of his administration, Abiodun said the months ahead demanded urgency, discipline, political maturity and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
He noted that the incoming commissioners were joining a government with achievements to consolidate and important responsibilities yet to be fulfilled, urging them to approach their assignments with a clear understanding of the expectations attached to their offices.
“We are now in the final lap of this administration. This period demands urgency, discipline, political maturity and a steadfast pursuit of excellence.
“Your appointments, therefore, come at a very significant moment. You are joining a government with substantial achievements and important responsibilities still to fulfil,” the governor said.
Abiodun stressed that the true measure of public leadership lay in the impact of government decisions on the lives of the people, rather than the titles or positions occupied by public officials.
He said the responsibility before members of the State Executive Council was to strengthen existing gains, tackle unfinished business and lay the foundation for a more prosperous and better-governed Ogun State.
According to him, the quality of decisions taken during the remaining period of the administration would determine how its stewardship would ultimately be assessed.
“History will assess our stewardship through the consequences of our decisions and the difference our service has made in the lives of the people.
“Let us, therefore, approach the months ahead with a clear sense of purpose and a determination to make every opportunity count,” he added.
The governor's charge placed particular emphasis on effective project monitoring, prudent resource management and the need to ensure that government programmes remained focused on the welfare and development needs of Ogun residents.
Ademokun Pledges Commitment to Development
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in commissioners, Mrs Adenike Ademokun expressed appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in them, assuring him that they would not take the appointments for granted.
She pledged that the new commissioners would give their best in discharging their responsibilities and support the administration's efforts to sustain development across Ogun State.
Ademokun also assured the governor of their readiness to work with other members of the State Executive Council and relevant government institutions to advance policies and programmes aimed at improving residents' welfare.
Her assurance came as the governor urged the new appointees to demonstrate commitment through practical results, effective service delivery and a willingness to place the public interest above personal considerations.
The swearing-in of Sanusi and Ademokun adds to the responsibilities of the State Executive Council as the Abiodun administration moves into the final phase of its tenure.
With the governor calling for greater urgency and accountability, the new commissioners are expected to contribute to the implementation of outstanding priorities, strengthen coordination within their respective areas of responsibility and help ensure that ongoing government programmes deliver meaningful outcomes for the people of Ogun State.
