29 FACTORIES TO RISE ALONG LAGOS–IBADAN EXPRESSWAY AS PROJECT TARGETS MANUFACTURING GROWTH, JOB CREATION
Ogun State is poised to strengthen its position as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial destinations as multinational conglomerate Lee Group prepares to establish a 450-hectare ultra-modern industrial park along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Makun Village and the Sagamu Interchange.
Governor Dapo Abiodun is scheduled to perform the groundbreaking ceremony for the ambitious project on Thursday, November 12, 2026, in what is expected to mark a significant development in the state’s drive to attract large-scale private investment, expand manufacturing capacity and create employment opportunities.
The proposed industrial complex, designed to accommodate 29 factories alongside supporting commercial, hospitality and recreational facilities, is expected to broaden Ogun State’s industrial base and strengthen its appeal to domestic and international investors seeking strategic locations for manufacturing and distribution.
The project represents another prospective addition to the state’s expanding industrial landscape, with its scale, location and planned mix of manufacturing activities positioning it to support economic growth and deepen private-sector participation in Ogun State.
29 factories to drive manufacturing expansion
Details of the proposed development indicate that the industrial park will accommodate factories engaged in the production of a wide range of goods, including footwear and leather products, plastics, packaging materials, personal care products and household items.
The diversity of the planned manufacturing activities is expected to create opportunities across several segments of the economy, ranging from consumer goods production to packaging, logistics, distribution and industrial services.
By bringing multiple manufacturing operations together within a single industrial complex, the development could encourage business-to-business relationships, improve access to shared services and strengthen linkages among manufacturers, suppliers and distributors.
The planned conference halls, hospitality facilities and recreational amenities will complement the factories by providing additional services for businesses, investors, workers and visitors operating within the complex.
The integrated design is expected to support a business environment in which manufacturing activities can operate alongside facilities that meet some of the commercial and service needs of the industrial community.
Strategic location offers access to major markets
The industrial park’s location along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, close to the Sagamu Interchange, is expected to be one of its major commercial advantages.
The corridor connects important economic centres in southwestern Nigeria and provides access to the large consumer markets of Ogun and Lagos states. Its road connections also offer businesses a potential gateway to other parts of Nigeria and markets across the wider West African region.
For manufacturers, proximity to major markets and transportation routes can influence the cost and efficiency of moving raw materials, finished products and industrial equipment.
The proposed location could therefore offer participating businesses logistical advantages, particularly those involved in fast-moving consumer goods, packaging, plastics, personal care products and other manufacturing activities that depend on reliable distribution networks.
The development could also stimulate demand for transportation, warehousing, freight handling and other logistics services around Makun Village and the Sagamu axis.
However, the extent of these benefits will depend on the timely development of supporting infrastructure, efficient logistics arrangements and the eventual commencement of operations by the factories.
Employment, SMEs to benefit
Beyond its proposed manufacturing capacity, the industrial park is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for residents of Ogun State and other Nigerians.
Direct employment could arise from factory operations, administration, engineering, production, quality control, equipment maintenance and other industrial functions.
Indirect opportunities are also expected in construction, transportation, catering, security, cleaning, equipment supply, warehousing and other services required to sustain activities within the complex.
Local contractors, small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), distributors and raw-material suppliers could benefit from business opportunities generated by the industrial park, particularly if participating factories establish strong relationships with local businesses.
The construction phase could create temporary employment for artisans, technicians, engineers, equipment operators and other skilled and unskilled workers, while the eventual commencement of production could provide longer-term opportunities.
The scale of employment and the extent of local participation, however, will depend on the pace of implementation, the number of factories that become operational and the workforce requirements of individual investors.
For SMEs, the development could provide opportunities to integrate into industrial supply chains, provided they can meet the quality, pricing, delivery and operational standards required by the manufacturing companies.
Abiodun’s industrialisation agenda
The proposed investment aligns with the Abiodun administration’s economic development priorities, which emphasise industrialisation, investment promotion, infrastructure development and job creation.
Ogun State has continued to attract interest from manufacturers and other businesses because of its proximity to Lagos, established industrial clusters and connections to major transportation routes.
Its location provides businesses with access to a large consumer market while offering an alternative base for companies seeking space for production, warehousing and related industrial activities.
The development of additional industrial infrastructure is also expected to support the state’s efforts to expand its economic base, encourage private-sector investment and generate employment beyond traditional commercial activities.
If successfully implemented, the Lee Group project could further strengthen the state’s manufacturing ecosystem by attracting complementary businesses and encouraging the development of services that support industrial production.
The presence of multiple factories within the proposed complex could also create opportunities for technology transfer, workforce training and the development of specialised skills, depending on the production processes and operational practices adopted by the participating companies.
Prospects for Ogun’s industrial future
The planned groundbreaking ceremony on November 12 is expected to formally signal the commencement of the industrial park project and mark another step in Ogun State’s ambition to become a major manufacturing and distribution hub in Nigeria and the wider West African region.
The project’s eventual economic impact will depend on the speed of construction, the delivery of essential infrastructure, the participation of manufacturers and the creation of a business environment that supports efficient industrial operations.
Reliable electricity, water supply, road access, security and efficient administrative processes will be important to the competitiveness of the proposed complex and the sustainability of businesses operating within it.
Equally important will be the ability to attract tenants, sustain investor confidence and ensure that local businesses and workers can participate meaningfully in the opportunities generated by the development.
If these conditions are met, the 450-hectare industrial park could become an important addition to Ogun State’s productive capacity, supporting manufacturing expansion, stimulating commercial activity and strengthening the economic relationship between Ogun and neighbouring Lagos State.
As preparations advance for the groundbreaking, expectations are building around the potential of the Lee Group investment to contribute to employment generation, industrial diversification and the long-term growth of Ogun State’s economy.
