The Edo State political landscape and the nation at large have been thrown into deep mourning following the transition of veteran politician, legal practitioner, and renowned chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Daniel Osi Orbih.
The tragic news was officially confirmed in a statement released on behalf of the family by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq. According to the announcement, the distinguished statesman passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of uncompromising political fortitude, public service, and devotion to his community.
Born into the prominent political dynasty of Chief M.C.K. Orbih in Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Chief Dan Orbih carved out an indelible niche for himself in Nigerian politics. Best known for his tenure as the long-serving Chairman of the PDP in Edo State and subsequently as the National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the party, Orbih was widely regarded as a fierce tactician and an unwavering voice of opposition. His charismatic leadership, sharp legal mind, and commitment to grassroots mobilization earned him immense respect across party lines.
Beyond the political arena, Orbih was a dedicated family man, a revered community leader, and a mentor to countless young politicians and lawyers across the country.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Florence Orbih; his daughters, Ms. Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr. Mildred Omonemi Orbih; alongside numerous brothers, sisters, and extended family members.
