Teen Says Friend Gave Him Bread To Deliver At Oshodi, Claims He Did Not Know What Was Inside
LAGOS — A 15-year-old boy identified as Taiye Majekodunmi has reportedly been arrested in Lagos after allegedly being found in possession of a firearm concealed inside a loaf of bread.
The teenager, who said he lives around Mushin Market, reportedly made the disclosure during an interrogation captured on video.
In the footage, Taiye identified the item allegedly concealed inside the bread as a gun. When asked how he came to be in possession of it, the teenager reportedly named a friend, Samuel, as the person who gave him the bread.
According to Taiye, he and Samuel are friends but have not known each other for a long period. He said he sees Samuel regularly but claimed he does not know what his friend does for a living.
The teenager reportedly told investigators that Samuel approached him after he returned from school and asked him to assist with delivering the bread to Oshodi.
Taiye said Samuel instructed him to take the bread to Terminal 1, where another person was allegedly expected to meet him and collect it.
“Today he saw me when I got back from school and asked me to help him to something to Oshodi and that someone will come and meet me at Terminal 1 to collect the bread from me, sir,” the teenager reportedly said during the interrogation.
When asked whether Samuel was his brother, Taiye reportedly answered in the negative, describing him instead as a friend.
“No, he’s my friend,” he said.
The teenager also confirmed that he is 15 years old when asked about his age.
The circumstances surrounding how the alleged firearm came to be concealed inside the bread, where it originated from and the identity of the intended recipient were not immediately established from the account available.
The reported arrest has raised concerns over the alleged use of minors to transport firearms and other potentially dangerous items, particularly where children may be unaware of what they are carrying.
However, the teenager's account remains an allegation at this stage, and the identity and role of the said Samuel, as well as the circumstances surrounding the alleged firearm, would require confirmation by the relevant security authorities.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident further, including the source of the firearm, the intended destination and recipient, and whether other individuals were involved in the alleged delivery arrangement.
