Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has declared that “there is no better day for revolution than election day”, urging Nigerians to use the ballot as a tool for change by voting for credible leaders.
Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, the co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls Campaign emphasized that the real challenge in Nigeria’s electoral system lies not in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) itself, but in the individuals working within it.
Yesufu stressed that free, fair, and credible elections are essential to prevent civil unrest, pointing to discrepancies between the 2023 presidential election results and those of the National Assembly polls.
She warned that Nigerians must compel INEC officials to uphold democratic integrity rather than relying on their goodwill.“On election day, nobody should go to work or travel.
Everyone must stand firm. That is the day we can achieve the revolution people talk about,” she said.
Yesufu’s call highlights growing demands for accountability and transparency in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.
