Gospel singer Abbey Ojomu has opened up about the strict courtship process she and her husband went through before getting married, revealing that their spiritual fathers instructed them to stop communicating for five months.
Speaking during a church event, Abbey said their decision to get married was intentional and guided by spiritual authority rather than emotions.
“I just want to bless God. He set everything, and we didn’t get here because of feelings or emotions. It was very, very intentional,” she said.
According to her, after they decided they wanted to begin the journey toward marriage, they submitted the relationship to their spiritual fathers, who gave them an unusual instruction.
“They told us to take like five months off speaking to each other. No phone calls, no texts, nothing, nothing, because they wanted to make sure that it wasn’t because we were close,” she recalled.
Abbey admitted the period was challenging, joking that they had to rely on another person to keep tabs on each other.
“I remember we used to send this girl messages. I will say, ‘How is he doing?’” she said as the audience burst into laughter, adding that the lady served as their “intermediary.”
She explained that they refused to take any further steps until they were given permission by their spiritual leaders.
“We… until they gave us permission, we did not move further,” she said.
Abbey also recounted travelling to Jos to meet Pastor Emmanuel, who asked about her convictions concerning the relationship.
“I had not even finished, Pastor Emmanuel Sir was like, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay.’ He was like, ‘I just wanted to hear what you wanted to say, we already know.’”
Reflecting on the experience, the gospel singer expressed gratitude for how everything unfolded.
“We just want to thank God for the journey, we were helped by God,” she said.
