ABEOKUTA — Political activities in Ogun State are gradually gaining momentum as Emmanuel Adebola Sofela has formally declared his intention to contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat, securing early backing from key grassroots leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta South Local Government.
The declaration was made during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting that brought together party executives, community leaders, and influential figures within the APC fold. Among those in attendance was the Abeokuta South APC Chairman, Tunji Henry Fagbenro, alongside representatives from neighboring local governments, reflecting the growing interest in Sofela’s renewed ambition.
Addressing the gathering, Sofela recalled his participation in the party’s 2023 senatorial primaries, noting that he accepted the outcome in good faith. He explained that his decision to re-enter the race is driven by a renewed commitment to provide more impactful and people-oriented representation for Ogun Central at the National Assembly.
“I am accessible, I am responsible, and I am ready to serve and support the people. With your backing, I am confident we can secure the senatorial ticket by the grace of Almighty God,” he said.
He also appealed to party elders and stakeholders to unite behind his aspiration, stressing the importance of cohesion within the party ahead of the next electoral cycle. According to him, collective support and strategic alignment would be crucial in securing victory at the primaries and beyond.
The meeting quickly turned into a show of support, as several party stalwarts took turns to endorse his candidacy. Former Speaker, Titi Oseni, described Sofela as a man of integrity with a proven track record of responsibility and strong moral character.
“I have known him for years without any blemish. He is articulate, respectful, and responsible. If given the opportunity to serve in the Senate, I have no doubt he will deliver,” she said.
Other stakeholders echoed similar sentiments. Ismaila Odejimi highlighted Sofela’s longstanding generosity and commitment to community development, expressing confidence in his leadership capacity. Nurudeen Olaleye shared a personal experience of Sofela’s compassion, recounting how he received financial assistance from him following a serious vehicle accident.
Also speaking, Hon. Olufemi Ilori urged party elders in Abeokuta South to rally behind Sofela, describing him as competent and capable of exceeding expectations if supported to represent Ogun Central.
The gathering featured a strong presence of party figures including Akeem Odejimi, Idowu Olude, Adisa Obasanjo, as well as traditional leaders, party executives, and grassroots mobilizers from Abeokuta South and Obafemi-Owode local governments.
Political observers note that Sofela’s early engagement with grassroots stakeholders signals a calculated move to build consensus within the APC ahead of the primaries. His emphasis on accessibility, philanthropy, and service appears to resonate with many within the party, positioning him as a formidable contender in the forthcoming race.
With political alignments already taking shape, the contest for the Ogun Central Senatorial seat is expected to attract significant attention in the coming months, as aspirants intensify consultations and mobilization efforts across the district.
