In a passionate plea amid rising insecurity, the House of Representatives has called for the immediate rescue of several abducted residents, including a pastor and a two-week-old infant, following a brazen terrorist attack in Kogi State.
The motion of urgent public importance, sponsored by Leke Abejide (ADC, Yagba East/West/Mopamuro Federal Constituency), was raised during Wednesday's plenary session and seconded by Hassan Shehu Hussein (PDP, Kano) and Akin Rotimi Jr. (APC, Ekiti).
It highlights the November 30, 2025, incident in Ejiba community, where gunmen stormed Idofin Isanlu, kidnapping a presiding pastor, the newborn baby, and Mr. Tuesday Omokore along with his wife and children.
The victims' whereabouts remain unknown, with no ransom demands reported yet.Abejide painted a grim picture of the escalating threats in the Yagba axis, declaring, “It has become a daily occurrence in my constituency.
"Our people can no longer sleep in their homes, farm, or go about their daily activities.”
He linked the surge in attacks to the dilapidated Kabba–Egbe Road, which he described as a notorious "corridor for terrorist activities," and recalled his prior advocacy for a specialized road reconstruction model.
In a multi-pronged demand, the lawmaker urged President Bola Tinubu to direct security chiefs to prioritize the victims' rescue and intensify patrols in the region.
He also called for an immediate suspension of all mining operations in the area, suspecting they fuel the criminality, and appealed to prominent philanthropists Aliko Dangote and Dahiru Mangal to partner with the Federal Government in rehabilitating the critical highway within two to three months warning that failure to act could lead to a total security collapse.
The House adopted the motion unanimously, underscoring the lawmakers' frustration with persistent banditry in Nigeria's North-Central zone.
