ASUP Mapoly Issues 5 Days Warning To Ogun State Govt., Management To Accomplish Promises On Constitution Of Governing Council, Salary Payments

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, ASUP Mapoly chapter has issued a five days warning to Ogun state government and the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, to fulfil their promises on the domestication of the Polytechnic Act (2019) and the constitution of Governing Council. 

According to the press statement jointly signed by Osifalujo Babatunde, Chairman and Adegunle Tomisi, General Secretary, after the emergency congress held today Monday, August 8, 2022, which considered the response and compliance to the resolutions reached at the tripartite meeting held with the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly), Abeokuta and the Unions on 18th July 2022 in response to persistent issues contiguous with the welfare of their Union members and the sustenance of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in consonant with communiqué of ASUP Congress dated 19th July 2022 where these issues were first deliberated and resolved on an 8-points resolutions that were sent to your office by the Union.

Thus, the Congress observed and deliberated on the following, that, The Union revisited its deliberations in suspending its planned industrial action earlier scheduled to commence at midnight of Tuesday, 19th July 2022 relying on the agreement reached at the tripartite meeting of 18th July, 2022.

Meanwhile, The resolutions of the Union as contained in the communiqué dated 19th July, 2022 were reappraised.
The response of the Ogun State Government to resolved only an item of the entire undertakings freely made to the Union at the expiration of the timeline of 5th August, 2022, The inability of the Management of the Polytechnic to put in place strategic plans to solve some internal challenges as mandated by the Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science and technology due to its precarious situation and financial incapability.

The challenges posed to welfare of members due to non-payment of staff salaries which had ceased to be paid since May 2022.

Consequently, the meeting resolved that in view of lack of financial capability of the Management of Mapoly and the inability of the Ogun State Government  to fulfil their promises on the domestication of the Polytechnic Act (2019) and the constitution of Governing Council, the Union hereby issue an immediate five (5) days warning strike for the Government and Management to accomplish its promises. 

The union executives said they remain committed to the upliftment of education in Ogun State
