Two teenage, believing to be a school pupils have confirmed dead in an early hours fatal accident occurred on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Ifo, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The accident, according to Ifo/Ewekoro Area Commander of the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) Ebunoluwa Akinkunmi, occurred around 9am and it involved a containerised MAN Diesel truck with registration number EPE 514 XW and 4 TVS Tricycle - JBD 482QJ, GBE 603 WZ, GBE 626 WU and other one without numbered
She said the truck which had already on excess speed lost control and rammed into other vehicles killing the two pupils on transit to their different schools and other five people 'four male and one female sustained degrees of injuries.
The presumed dead bodies, according to the Area Commander Akinkunmi, have been deposited at IFO General Hospital Morgue While the injured victims are receiving treatment also at IFO General Hospital
The incidence, she opined led to serious protests and moving traffic along the axis was grounded. She hinted that normalcy have returned to the highway as the damaged tricycles have been towed off the road to Ifo Police station, adding that efforts ongoing to removed the containerised truck completely from the road.
In his reaction, the TRACE Corps Commander and Chief Executive Officer, Abdulfatai Olaseni Ogunyemi, has commiserate with the families that lost their precious children in the accident.
He warned articulated vehicle drivers against reckless and excess speeding, saying TRACE would always have zero tolerance on their indisciplines causing menace on the highways.
He also appealed to tricyclists and motorcyclists to always obey traffic rules and avoid one way driving, illegal turning and overtaking. Anyone caught floating traffic rules would be prosecuted, Commander Ogunyemi, Added.
