Students at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta have issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to restore stable power supply or face peaceful shutdown of its offices.
The Students Union Government released the directive on 10 December 2025, highlighting ongoing blackouts that severely affect academic and living conditions in the MAPOLY area.
“We are giving IBEDC a 72-hour ultimatum to improve power supply and implement at least a fair ‘2 days on, 1 day off’ arrangement,” the union stated in its press release.
Union President Sen Comr Afolabi Temitope, popularly known as Big AFO, led the demand, expressing disappointment over unfulfilled promises made during a recent visit to IBEDC’s regional office.
“We begged, they assured us, and they gave us their word they’ll provide us with few hours of light,” the statement read, noting initial appreciation before conditions worsened.
The union warned that failure to comply would compel students to block all IBEDC offices and access roads, including the regional headquarters in Abeokuta.
“If nothing changes after 72 hours, the Union will be compelled to peacefully shut down all NEPA offices and access roads,” the release declared.
General Secretary Comr Ekundayo Gbenga, known as Hallow, co-signed the document, reinforcing the union’s unified stance on student welfare.
“We are not seeking trouble; we just want fairness, and we desire our students to live and study in decent conditions,” the students emphasised.
The ultimatum underscores mounting frustration among tertiary institution communities in Ogun State over unreliable electricity supply from IBEDC.
