The youth in Ogun State under the aegis of Ijebu Youths Association has advocated severe purnishment and imprisonment if not death sentence to evidetial rapists.

The youth group in a press briefing held at Abeokuta explained that the rampant cases of rape across the country is worrisome and the security agencies should buckle up to arrest this ugly trend.

Speaking during the briefing, the President of the association, Comr Wasiu Okikiola Fayomi said that the youth group had been bewildered by the the sheer increase in the number of rape cases and the associated brutality, and many times death in the last few months.

Comr. Fayomi disclosed that unfortunately "this rape pandemic has hit mostly the Nigerian youths and depriving them of their innocence, exposing them to shame, sexual diseases among other hardships"

He said "look at the cases of Vera Omozuwa gang raped and killed in Benin while studying inside a church likewise Barakat murdered after being raped in Ibadan. In fact, the Inspector General Police, Muhammed Adamu recently said that the police recorded
over 720 rape cases within the first six months of this year alone, it is scary".

Fayomi said given the blood and tears these perverse criminal elements used to leave behind after their dastardly acts, the youth group believed that any rapist caught deserved no less a penalty than life imprisonment.

The youth has therefore urged the state assembly to come up with a law and other stringent measures that could be deployed to fighting to standstill this animalistic behavior and also checked  various growing sexual violence across the country.

The youth President said that another obstacle to the fight against rape is the reported inability to successfully prosecute many rape cases and therefore encouraging many to take to this criminal acts saying that "this is why we believe that our police officers must be more diligent in their prosecutions while necessary law must also be enacted to fight off this evil".

Fayomi lauded wife of Ogun State governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun as well as the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon Mrs Funmi Efuwape for championing calls for concerted efforts towards curbing this ungodly acts while also ensuring that the victims get desired justice.
