Hon. Dr. Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, a member of the House of Representatives, has sponsored a professional technology skills acquisition programme for youths in Remo, Ogun State, with each beneficiary receiving training support valued at ₦600,000.
The initiative, according to details of the programme, is aimed at equipping young people with globally relevant digital competencies that can improve their employability, promote entrepreneurship and prepare them for opportunities in the rapidly expanding digital economy.
Under the arrangement, the lawmaker has fully funded the programme, covering the cost of training for each selected beneficiary to ensure that participants do not have to pay out of pocket to access the opportunity.
The initiative forms part of efforts to promote youth development and human capital investment by providing young people with practical, industry-relevant skills that complement their existing academic qualifications.
TWO COHORTS TO UNDERGO PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
The beneficiaries have been divided into two cohorts, with training to be delivered through AIT School Africa and Codar Tech Skills Africa.
The programme covers several areas of technology and professional development, including cybersecurity, forensics, digital analysis and project management, alongside other technology-related skills.
These fields are increasingly relevant across different sectors, including finance, business, information technology, public administration and digital services.
By providing access to specialised training, the initiative seeks to give participating youths the opportunity to develop competencies that can be applied in local and international workplaces.
The training is also expected to expose beneficiaries to skills that may support freelance work, technology-based entrepreneurship and other forms of self-employment.
₦600,000 PER BENEFICIARY
A major feature of the programme is the financial commitment attached to each scholarship.
Hon. Dr. Ayoola-Elegbeji has reportedly paid the full training expenses, valued at ₦600,000 per beneficiary, removing the direct financial burden of the programme from the selected participants.
The sponsorship is intended to widen access to professional digital training, particularly for young people who may otherwise find it difficult to afford specialised technology courses.
Beyond acquiring additional qualifications, the beneficiaries are expected to gain practical knowledge that can strengthen their professional profiles and improve their ability to compete for opportunities in the digital marketplace.
The exact number of beneficiaries and the total financial value of the sponsorship were not stated in the announcement.
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE OF REMO YOUTHS
The programme highlights the growing importance of digital skills as a pathway to employment, innovation and economic independence among young people.
As businesses and institutions increasingly adopt technology-driven systems, skills in cybersecurity, digital analysis, project management and related fields can provide access to a wider range of career opportunities.
For Remo youths, the sponsorship offers an opportunity to pursue professional development without bearing the stated cost of the training.
The initiative's organisers expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for supporting youth capacity building and described the intervention as an investment in the future of young people in the area.
They also encouraged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by remaining committed to their studies, developing their practical abilities and applying the knowledge gained to productive ventures.
EXPECTATIONS FOR BENEFICIARIES
Beyond the provision of scholarships, the long-term impact of the initiative will depend on how effectively participants translate their training into practical skills, employment, entrepreneurship and other productive activities.
Access to mentorship, professional networks, relevant work experience and industry-recognised credentials could further strengthen the beneficiaries' prospects after completing their courses.
The programme also underscores the potential role of targeted educational sponsorships in helping young people overcome financial barriers to specialised training.
For the beneficiaries, the opportunity represents a chance to build new competencies, broaden their career options and participate more actively in the digital economy.
With the training expenses reportedly fully covered, the selected Remo youths are expected to make productive use of the opportunity and work towards building sustainable careers in their chosen fields.
The initiative adds to the broader conversation about youth empowerment and the need to complement formal education with practical, market-relevant skills that can support long-term economic growth.
