Adebutu, Wife Crowned Gbadému, Yeye Gbadému of Owu Kingdom
The Deputy Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Alhaja Yemi Kolapo-Showunmi, has congratulated the party’s governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, and his wife, Yeye Adenike Adebutu, on their installation as Gbadému and Yeye Gbadému of Owu Kingdom, respectively.
The prestigious chieftaincy titles were conferred on the couple on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Oba Saka Matemilola, at a ceremony attended by members of the traditional institution, political associates, family members and other dignitaries.
In her congratulatory message, Kolapo-Showunmi described the installation as a significant recognition of Adebutu’s character, contributions and enduring relationship with the traditional institution.
She said the PDP governorship candidate is a cultured and refined gentleman who has consistently demonstrated deep respect, love and appreciation for traditional institutions and the rich cultural heritage of the people.
According to her, the honour goes beyond the conferment of a traditional title, describing it as a testament to Adebutu’s commitment to the values, customs and institutions that have continued to shape the identity of the Owu people and Ogun State at large.
Kolapo-Showunmi also extended her warm congratulations to Yeye Adenike Adebutu, noting that her elevation to the position of Yeye Gbadému alongside her husband further underscores the significance of the occasion.
She prayed that the new titles would bring greater honour, wisdom and strength to the couple as they continue to contribute to the development and wellbeing of the people.
“Congratulations to the new Gbadému and Yeye Gbadému of Owu Kingdom. May the titles bring greater honour, wisdom, and continued service to the people. Aṣẹ!” she stated.
The installation comes at a significant period in Ogun State’s political calendar, with Adebutu and Kolapo-Showunmi representing the PDP as the party’s governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
Adebutu, a former member of the House of Representatives, has remained an active participant in Ogun State’s political and socio-economic affairs, while maintaining strong ties with traditional institutions and community stakeholders.
The conferment of the Gbadému title on him is therefore expected to further strengthen his relationship with the Owu traditional institution and other stakeholders who value the preservation of Yoruba culture, tradition and communal heritage.
The occasion also provided an opportunity for well-wishers and associates to celebrate the couple’s new traditional status and wish them wisdom and success in their continued service to the people.
The Owu Kingdom remains one of the prominent traditional institutions in Yorubaland, with the Olowu serving as the custodian of its rich history, culture and traditions.
With the latest honour, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu and Yeye Adenike Adebutu formally join the ranks of distinguished individuals recognised by the Owu traditional institution for their contributions and relationship with the kingdom.
