ABEOKUTA, OGUN STATE — The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 34-year-old man, identified as Remilekun Peter, over an alleged case of burglary, theft and attempted rape at Onimalu Cooperative CDA, along Ilogbo Road in Ogun State.
The suspect was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Onipanu Divisional Headquarters, alongside the alleged victim and the complainant, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
According to a statement issued by the State Commander of So-Safe Corps, Cmdr. (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, and signed by the agency's Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The Corps said the incident came to its attention after the Chairman of Onimalu Cooperative CDA, Mr. Tajudeen Adedeji, alerted the agency's Division Officer, SC Bakare Gafar, following reports that residents had heard a woman shouting for help.
The statement explained that members of the community reportedly rushed to the scene and allegedly saw Peter chasing the woman, identified as Mrs. Omolara Oluwakemi, while armed with a pair of scissors.
A security officer on duty was said to have intervened, leading to the apprehension of the suspect.
During preliminary questioning, the alleged victim reportedly told security personnel that the suspect gained entry into her residence in the early hours of the morning and allegedly took away a television set, fans and other household appliances.
She further alleged that after removing the items, the suspect brought out a pair of scissors and attempted to sexually assault her.
The woman reportedly managed to escape from the suspect and raised an alarm, which attracted the attention of nearby residents who moved to intervene.
The So-Safe Corps also disclosed that a search conducted on the suspect allegedly led to the recovery of a condom.
Following the arrest, the suspect, the alleged victim and the CDA chairman, who was identified as the complainant, were handed over to officers at the Onipanu Police Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and appropriate legal action.
The State Commander commended members of the community and the So-Safe Corps personnel for their prompt response, noting that their intervention helped prevent further harm to the alleged victim.
The Corps urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, distress calls and emergencies to security agencies.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Ogun State, while stressing the importance of cooperation between communities and security agencies in tackling crime.
The police are expected to conduct further investigations into the allegations and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
