Suspect Allegedly Leads Operatives to Two Houses After Early-Morning Chase
IFO, OGUN STATE — Operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, have arrested a 27-year-old man, identified as Ayobami Akodun, for allegedly vandalising residential buildings and stealing installed aluminium window frames in the Kajola Railway Station area of Ifo Local Government Area.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended during an early-morning routine patrol by officers attached to the Seriki Kajola Divisional Headquarters, under the Ifo 2 Area Command.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the State Commander of the Corps, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, and made available through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander of Corps Adegunwa Adegbuyi.
According to the statement, the arrest occurred on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at about 4:27 a.m., when officers on routine patrol reportedly noticed Akodun behaving suspiciously along the road.
The operatives allegedly directed him to stop for questioning, but instead of complying, he reportedly took to his heels.
The officers immediately gave chase and eventually apprehended him.
Suspect Allegedly Confesses During Interrogation
The So-Safe Corps said preliminary interrogation following the arrest led to an alleged confession by the suspect.
According to the agency, Akodun reportedly admitted that he had previously escaped after being arrested on two separate occasions before his latest apprehension.
The Corps further alleged that the suspect was involved in a pattern of burglary, particularly the removal of aluminium window frames from residential buildings within the Arepo-Seriki community and surrounding areas.
The agency said the suspect subsequently led its operatives to two different residential buildings where he allegedly broke the glass portions of windows to remove the aluminium frames.
The recovered information is expected to form part of the investigation being conducted by the relevant authorities.
Police Take Over Investigation
Following his arrest, the suspect was transferred to the Lemode Police Station for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The transfer is expected to allow the police to conduct a more comprehensive investigation into the allegations, including determining whether the suspect may be linked to other reported cases of burglary and property theft within the area.
The So-Safe Corps did not state whether the stolen aluminium frames had been recovered at the time of the announcement.
Ganzallo Reaffirms Commitment to Community Safety
Reacting to the arrest, State Commander Soji Ganzallo commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and prompt response.
He reiterated the Corps' commitment to maintaining security across communities in Ogun State and tackling criminal activities through regular patrols and intelligence gathering.
The Corps also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, particularly during the early hours of the day when criminal elements may attempt to exploit low human and vehicular movement.
Residents were urged to report suspicious persons, movements or activities promptly to the nearest So-Safe Corps office or other relevant security agencies.
The agency stressed that timely information from members of the public remains crucial to preventing crime, protecting property and ensuring the safety of communities across the state.
The allegations against Akodun remain subject to police investigation and the judicial process.
