A security expert and public relations practitioner has described the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayo Ogunsan, as a “Doyen of Modern Security”, commending his leadership, commitment and contributions to strengthening the security architecture of Lagos State.
In a special commendation, the security practitioner said Ogunsan had distinguished himself through his dedication to the welfare, operational effectiveness and success of security agencies operating within Lagos State, describing his contribution to the security sector as beneficial not only to Lagos but to Nigeria as a whole.
Recounting his personal experience with Ogunsan, the security expert said he first met the LSSTF boss while serving as an Operations Officer with the Lagos State Police Command and later in the capacity of Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command.
According to him, the relationship developed over the years into a strong friendship, adding that his experience with Ogunsan had convinced him of the latter’s willingness to assist people and resolve challenges within his capacity.
He noted that Ogunsan’s commitment to security development did not begin with his appointment as Executive Secretary and CEO of the LSSTF, stressing that he had already demonstrated his passion for security matters while serving as a member of the Board of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
The security expert described Ogunsan’s subsequent appointment by the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, as Executive Secretary and CEO of the Fund as a well-deserved decision.
He said the appointment was neither an error nor a misfit, but rather “the right peg in the right hole”, considering Ogunsan’s experience, competence and understanding of the security sector.
He further stated that Ogunsan’s achievements since assuming office had continued to attract attention, particularly his efforts to ensure that security agencies operating within Lagos State receive the necessary support to effectively discharge their responsibilities.
According to him, Ogunsan has demonstrated an inclusive approach to security administration by showing concern for the successes and welfare of various security agencies, irrespective of whether they are directly owned by the Lagos State Government or operate as federal agencies within the state.
He said Ogunsan’s philosophy appeared to be that any security agency operating within Lagos State deserves the necessary support to succeed, describing such an approach as exceptional and worthy of commendation.
The security expert said the LSSTF under Ogunsan had become an important component of the state’s security architecture, adding that his leadership style could serve as a model for other states seeking to improve their security systems.
“In security business, Ogunsan's style of leadership should be a reference and formidable template to others who may want to emulate Lagos State in improving security around them or their security architecture and styles,” he stated.
He also emphasised the importance of strong collaboration between security agencies, government institutions and other stakeholders in achieving a safer society, noting that effective security management requires more than the deployment of personnel.
According to him, strategic leadership, adequate support, collaboration, innovation and attention to the welfare and operational needs of security personnel are essential components of a functional security architecture.
The security expert therefore urged other stakeholders within the security sector to study and emulate what he described as Ogunsan’s practical and people-oriented approach to security administration.
While acknowledging that there may still be challenges within the security sector, he maintained that the commitment demonstrated by Ogunsan deserved recognition and encouragement.
He said his assessment was informed not only by what he had personally experienced over the years but also by what he had observed regarding Ogunsan’s activities and accomplishments since his appointment as the head of the LSSTF.
The commendation concluded with an appreciation of Ogunsan’s commitment and leadership, particularly his efforts towards creating a safer Lagos State.
“Thanks for all you do. Thanks for your commitment and quality sterling leadership styles towards a safer Lagos. Kudos to you, Dr Ayo Ogunsan,” he said.
The security expert subsequently conferred on Ogunsan the informal title of “Doyen of Modern Security”, saying his leadership and contributions provide a worthy example for those seeking to build effective and sustainable security structures.
He wished the LSSTF boss continued success in his service to Lagos State and the wider security community.
