Four persons have been arrested in connection with the mob k!lling of Basit Kolade, the groom who was beaten to de@th in Lagos state on September 2.
LIB had reported that the deceased, who recently returned to Nigeria for his wedding coming up later this month, was be@ten to de@th by a mob around Freeman street, Lagos state Island.
The spokesperson of the state police command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased and his woman, simply identified as Ayanda, were returning from Ebute Metta and heading towards Lagos Island in their black Lexus Jeep with registration number KSF 115 JZ when a motorcycle allegedly ran into their vehicle from behind.
She said the rider was reportedly confronted by Basit, who demanded an explanation.
‘’ In the process, Basit allegedly reversed the vehicle and hit the motorcycle, causing the rider and the motorcycle to fall.
Following the incident, a group of boys allegedly emerged from the area and attacked Basit with dangerous weapons while his woman was reportedly rescued by some women in the area.
Adebisi said Basit was subsequently rushed to the Lagos Island General Hospital, where he was attended to by the medical personnel on duty and was later confirmed de@d.
She mentioned that four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
‘’The Command strongly condemns the incident and warns members of the public against resorting to mob action, jungle justice, or any form of self-help. No individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands. Anyone found culpable in the attack, including those who participated in the alleged mob action, will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.’’
