Senator Solomon Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District, has threatened legal action against Hon. Abayomi Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello over what he described as false, defamatory and libelous statements concerning his state of origin and family.
Adeola, in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, through his Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, challenged Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to produce evidence backing their claims or face legal action.
The controversy followed separate appearances by the two politicians on programmes aired by Channels Television, during which they allegedly claimed that Senator Adeola is an indigene of Ekiti State, among other allegations concerning his background and family.
According to the senator, the claims were made without supporting evidence and subsequently circulated widely across other media and social media platforms.
Adeola has consequently issued a 24-hour ultimatum, demanding that both individuals publicly substantiate their allegations concerning his origin or prepare to defend themselves in court.
Reacting to the allegations, Adeola said he watched the television interviews with disbelief, describing the claims about his origin as outrageous and unfounded.
He specifically challenged those alleging that he is from Ekiti State to identify the precise location of his alleged origin and provide credible evidence to support the assertion.
The senator also took exception to claims concerning the locations of his parents' graves, describing such statements as part of what he considers an attempt to manufacture evidence to support an allegedly false narrative about his background.
Adeola declared that he would no longer tolerate what he described as defamatory statements against himself and his family.
The statement further recalled that allegations about Adeola's alleged Ekiti origin had previously featured prominently in political campaigns against him during the period leading to his emergence as Senator representing Ogun West.
According to his media office, the alleged propaganda was intended to discourage voters in Ogun West from supporting his senatorial ambition but ultimately failed, as the senator went on to secure victory at the 2023 National Assembly elections.
The statement alleged that the issue has now resurfaced against the backdrop of Adeola's emergence as the APC governorship candidate and his preparations for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
His media office described the renewed allegations as an attempt to undermine his political ambition ahead of the 2027 election.
Adeola's ultimatum has consequently raised the possibility of a legal battle over the competing claims regarding his ancestry and place of origin.
The senator maintained that anyone making public allegations about his identity and family should be prepared to substantiate such claims with verifiable evidence.
He said the 24-hour deadline was intended to provide the individuals involved an opportunity to present whatever evidence they claimed to possess before legal proceedings are initiated.
The development adds another dimension to the increasingly intense political activities ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, with rival political actors already engaging in public debates over the backgrounds, records and political credentials of major contenders.
As of the issuance of the statement, Adeola's media office had not indicated whether legal proceedings had already been filed, but the senator's position was that failure by Hunye and Marcus-Bello to provide evidence within the stipulated period would result in lawsuits over the alleged defamatory statements.
