Adamawa State House of Assembly Speaker Bathiya Wesley has rejected claims that he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Action People’s Movement (APM).

The rumours surfaced less than 24 hours after former Speaker Kabiru Mijinyawa, the lawmaker representing Yola South, and thousands of his supporters defected from the APC to the APM.

An unnamed APC executive member alleged that Wesley intended to switch parties to secure a House of Representatives ticket after being denied the opportunity on the APC platform.

However, the Speaker’s Press Secretary, Bernard Hyellamada, dismissed the reports as false. He stated that Wesley has no intention of abandoning the APC, noting the significant energy and resources the Speaker has invested in strengthening the party.

“Let me tell you categorically that the speaker is not going anywhere; he remains in APC till after the 2027 general elections,” Hyellamada said.
