The Honourable Commissioner for Trade and Investment in Ogun State, Mr. Emmanuel Adebola Sofela, has extended warm greetings and heartfelt commendations to women across Abeokuta South, Obafemi-Owode, Odeda, Ifo and Ewekoro areas in celebration of the 2026 International Women’s Day.
In a message released to mark the global event, Sofela praised the resilience, strength, and remarkable contributions of women to the socio-economic development of Ogun State and Nigeria at large. He noted that women remain vital drivers of growth in commerce, governance, education, and community development.
The commissioner acknowledged the invaluable roles played by women in families, markets, businesses, and public service, describing them as pillars of progress whose dedication continues to inspire positive change in society.
Sofela particularly lauded women across Abeokuta South, Obafemi-Owode, Odeda, Ifo, and Ewekoro for their entrepreneurial spirit and active participation in economic activities that sustain local communities and contribute to the state’s thriving business environment.
According to him, the occasion of International Women’s Day provides an important opportunity to reflect on the achievements of women while also reinforcing the commitment to gender equality and inclusive development.
He emphasized that the Ogun State government remains committed to policies and programmes that empower women, encourage female entrepreneurship, and create opportunities for women to thrive in various sectors of the economy.
“Women are the backbone of our society and economy. Their contributions to trade, industry, and community development are invaluable. Today, we celebrate their courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to building stronger families and prosperous communities,” Sofela said.
The commissioner also encouraged young girls and women to continue striving for excellence, urging them to take advantage of opportunities in education, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
He further called on stakeholders, community leaders, and private sector partners to continue supporting initiatives that promote women’s empowerment and protect their rights.
As the world marks International Women’s Day, Sofela reaffirmed his commitment to advancing policies that foster inclusivity and economic participation for women, noting that empowering women remains key to sustainable development in Ogun State and beyond.
International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on March 8 to recognize the achievements of women and to advocate for gender equality, women’s rights, and social progress across the globe.
