IPERU/ILISAN – In a decisive move to safeguard the future of young girls within her constituency, Hon. Dr. Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, Member of the House of Representatives for the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, has launched a robust health sensitization campaign targeting primary school pupils.
The initiative, dubbed the "Pathfinder Champion Outreach," visited Saint James Anglican Primary School, Iperu, and Wesley School, Ilisan, to provide critical education on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and its link to cervical cancer.
A Proactive Shield Against Cervical Cancer
During the sessions, the Pathfinder Champion’s representative, Mrs. Otameh Kehinde, delivered a compelling lecture on the necessity of early intervention. She noted that while HPV is a significant health concern for women globally, its impact can be drastically reduced through timely vaccination.
> "Early vaccination provides a lifetime of protection," Mrs. Kehinde told the pupils. "We are here to ensure that no girl is left vulnerable due to a lack of information. Knowledge is the first line of defense against cervical cancer."

The program aimed to demystify the vaccine, encouraging pupils and their guardians to embrace the immunization exercise as a vital preventive measure rather than a cause for concern.
Beyond Education: Supporting Menstrual Hygiene
Recognizing that health empowerment is multifaceted, the outreach went beyond lectures. In a gesture that sparked visible excitement among the students, the team distributed free sanitary pads to the female pupils.
This intervention addresses the critical issue of "period poverty," ensuring that young girls have the necessary resources to remain in school and maintain their dignity during their menstrual cycles.

The event saw a strong showing from the lawmaker's primary team, including Mrs. Kehinde and Mr. Ogungbesan Emmanuel. Their presence underscored Hon. Ayoola-Elegbeji’s hands-on approach to grassroots development and her specific focus on the health, education, and general well-being of the girl-child.
