The Chairman of Obafemi–Owode Local Government, Ambassador Ogunsola Lanrewaju Adesina, has joined millions around the world to celebrate women and recognize their invaluable contributions to society as part of activities marking the 2026 International Women’s Day.
In a statement released on Sunday, Ambassador Ogunsola commended women across Obafemi–Owode Local Government Area and beyond for their resilience, dedication, and critical roles in nation-building, describing them as the backbone of families, communities, and the economy.
According to the council chairman, the annual global observance offers an opportunity to appreciate the achievements of women while also renewing commitments toward gender equality, empowerment, and inclusive development.
“Women remain the driving force behind the progress we witness in our homes, institutions, and communities. Their sacrifices, leadership, and determination continue to inspire positive change,” he stated.
Ambassador Ogunsola noted that women in the local government have continued to demonstrate remarkable excellence in various sectors, including education, health care, entrepreneurship, agriculture, politics, and public service.
He emphasized that the local government administration remains committed to promoting policies and initiatives that support women’s empowerment, economic inclusion, and leadership opportunities.
“As a government at the grassroots, we recognize that empowering women is essential for sustainable development. When women are supported, families thrive, communities grow stronger, and society moves forward,” he added.
The chairman also encouraged young girls and women within the council area to remain confident, pursue their ambitions, and continue contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of their communities.
Ambassador Ogunsola further called on stakeholders, community leaders, and residents to support efforts aimed at protecting the rights of women and ensuring equal opportunities for all.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s dedication to initiatives that uplift women and promote their participation in governance and community development.
“Today, we celebrate the courage, achievements, and limitless potential of women everywhere. On behalf of the government and people of Obafemi–Owode Local Government, I extend warm greetings and heartfelt appreciation to all women for their enduring impact on our society,” the statement added.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally every March 8 to highlight the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality and women’s rights.
