The United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) Africa has announced the confirmation of distinguished African leaders Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba and Jewel Howard‑Taylor as Patron and Matron respectively, a move expected to further strengthen the organization’s mission of promoting peace, good governance and poverty eradication across the continent.
UNIPGC, formerly known as the International Peace and Governance Council (IPGC), is an Atlanta-based civil society and diplomatic organization committed to advancing sustainable peace, responsible leadership and social development worldwide through advocacy, education and strategic interventions.
The council confirmed that renowned Kenyan legal scholar and anti-corruption crusader, Prof. Patrick Lumumba, will serve as Patron of UNIPGC Africa. Lumumba, a former Director of the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission, is widely respected across Africa for his strong stance on accountability, ethical leadership and institutional reforms.
According to the organization, Lumumba’s wealth of experience in governance advocacy and public service will bring intellectual leadership and strategic guidance to the council’s initiatives across the continent.
“Professor Lumumba’s voice has consistently championed integrity, African renaissance and the strengthening of democratic institutions. His role as Patron will further energize the council’s commitment to good governance and sustainable peace,” the council said in a statement.
In a related development, Liberia’s former First Lady and immediate past Vice President, Jewel Howard-Taylor, has been confirmed as Matron of UNIPGC Africa.
Howard-Taylor, who served as Vice President of Liberia from 2018 to 2024, has long been involved in governance reforms, women’s empowerment and social development initiatives across West Africa.
Her appointment, according to UNIPGC officials, reflects the council’s commitment to inclusive leadership and the promotion of women’s participation in peacebuilding and governance advocacy.
“The Matron’s role is critical in championing humanitarian initiatives, supporting social advocacy and strengthening the council’s outreach in Africa,” the organization noted.
UNIPGC said the appointments come at a time when Africa faces increasing governance challenges, conflicts and socio-economic pressures that require collaborative solutions and visionary leadership.
Founded in Atlanta, United States, the United International Peace and Governance Council operates as a global civil society and diplomatic platform dedicated to promoting sustainable peace, good governance advocacy and poverty eradication across nations.
The council pursues its mission through public enlightenment campaigns, seminars, international conferences, policy interventions, conflict resolution efforts, mediation initiatives, academic publications and the deployment of peace emissaries to regions experiencing tensions or crises.
