The Ogun State Police Command has ordered a full investigation into an incident involving officers from the Kemta Police Station at Government Technical in Abeokuta, assuring the public that appropriate action will be taken after a thorough review of the circumstances.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, said the matter has been formally referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for detailed examination.
According to the statement, the police authorities are working closely with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to unravel what transpired and ensure that due process is followed.
“The Ogun State Police Command is aware of the incident that occurred at Government Technical involving officers from Kemta Police Station and wishes to inform the public that the matter is currently under investigation, having been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department,” the statement read.
Babaseyi emphasized that the investigation would be carried out in collaboration with the NSCDC to determine the facts surrounding the development and to ensure accountability where necessary.
He noted that the joint review would help establish whether any officer acted outside established professional standards, adding that appropriate sanctions would be applied if wrongdoing is confirmed.
The police spokesperson also used the opportunity to reaffirm the strong working relationship between the police and other security agencies operating in the state.
He stressed that security agencies, particularly the police and the NSCDC, continue to maintain cordial and collaborative relationships aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
“The Command will, in collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, examine the circumstances surrounding the incident exhaustively to ensure due process is followed with a view to apply sanction as appropriate and avoid a repeat of such incident,” Babaseyi said.
He further reassured residents that the Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability and the maintenance of law and order.
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the investigative process to run its course, noting that the outcome of the probe would guide any disciplinary or administrative actions that may follow.
The incident, which reportedly involved personnel attached to Kemta Police Station and officials of the NSCDC at Government Technical, has drawn public attention, prompting the police leadership to initiate the investigation and reiterate the importance of inter-agency cooperation in maintaining security across the state.
