Obafemi-Owode Local Government has presented a proposed 2026 budget of ₦18,035,215,836.40, christened “Budget of Sustainable Expansion and Economic Development,” to its Legislative Council, setting an ambitious fiscal framework aimed at accelerating infrastructure delivery, strengthening institutions and expanding economic opportunities across the council area.
Presenting the Appropriation Bill before the Legislative Council, the Executive Chairman, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, said the 2026 financial plan reflects the developmental aspirations of the people and aligns with prevailing economic realities.
According to the chairman, despite national economic adjustments, revenue constraints and rising public expectations, his administration recorded notable achievements in the implementation of the 2025 budget through prudent financial management and strategic partnerships.
Ogunsola highlighted several projects and programmes executed in the outgoing fiscal year, noting that his administration facilitated both local and international collaborations to foster sustainable growth in the local government.
Among such partnerships, he cited engagements with the Government of Dover in the United States of America and the Izindonga Group of South Africa, alongside other domestic partners, aimed at enhancing development initiatives for the benefit of communities within Obafemi-Owode.
The chairman disclosed that these efforts earned the council prestigious recognitions, including a National Award as one of the best Local Governments in Nigeria by the Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA) 2025 for excellence in grassroots leadership and development. He added that the council was also ranked third best performing Local Government Chairman in Nigeria for quality leadership, service delivery and accountability.
Reaffirming his commitment to sustainable development, Ogunsola described the 2026 budget as a strategic roadmap designed to accelerate infrastructure expansion, improve institutional capacity, and promote inclusive economic growth.
“We acknowledge the challenges posed by revenue limitations and increasing public expectations, but our determination to accelerate growth and sustainable development remains strong,” he said.
He assured the Legislative Council and residents of strict budget implementation, responsible resource utilisation and effective monitoring mechanisms to ensure that every naira allocated translates into tangible benefits for communities across the local government.
The council boss also commended the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for what he described as visionary leadership and transformative infrastructural initiatives across the state, particularly within Obafemi-Owode Local Government.
He noted that the council area has benefitted significantly from the state government’s developmental agenda, especially the Siun–Ofada–Mowe Road project, which he described as a major economic corridor enhancing mobility, trade and connectivity within the axis. He added that the local government complemented the state’s intervention by extending road improvements to the Ogidan–Geleodun Road, thereby expanding access and boosting socio-economic activities in adjoining communities.
Ogunsola called on the Leader and members of the Legislative Council to grant speedy passage to the 2026 Appropriation Bill to enable timely and effective implementation in the overall interest of residents. He stressed the need for joint effort and shared responsibility in building a united and forward-looking Obafemi-Owode that promotes growth, prosperity and inclusive development.
Responding, Hon. Saheed Ariyibi, Leader of the Legislative Council, assured the Executive Chairman of the council’s commitment to a swift consideration and passage of the budget proposal.
Ariyibi commended the harmonious working relationship between the Legislative and Executive arms of government in the local council, noting that the interests of councillors and their respective constituencies have consistently received prompt attention.
The budget presentation ceremony was attended by key political and traditional leaders, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abiodun Sobukonla; Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Kayode Dipeolu; APC Party Chairman in Obafemi-Owode, Chief Emmanuel Idowu Olude; the Olu of Owode Egba, HRH Oba Kolawole Sowemimo; and former House of Assembly member, Hon. Dele Erisan, among others.
With the proposed ₦18.03 billion appropriation, stakeholders say Obafemi-Owode Local Government is positioning itself for sustained expansion and deeper economic transformation in 2026.
