The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has commenced the year 2026 with a three-day Staff Retreat aimed at consolidating the gains of the positive reforms currently transforming the agency.
Held at the Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort in Ekiti State, the retreat, themed “Consolidating on the Gains of Positive Reforms,” was designed to sustain the momentum of change that has repositioned the Authority among high-performing public sector agencies.
In his opening address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FHA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, charged staff to remain committed to hard work and professionalism in order to deepen the reforms and drive the agency’s continued growth. He commended employees for their resilience, tenacity and willingness to embrace change, noting that their attitude has been central to the Authority’s recent successes.
According to him, the progress recorded under his administration could only be sustained through dedication and teamwork. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to staff welfare, stressing that improved welfare packages are directly linked to productivity and performance.
Hon. Ojo disclosed that staff take-home allowances are projected to improve within the first quarter of 2026, provided the current momentum of hard work is sustained. He also explained that the recent promotion exercise, which cleared a backlog of promotions within the Authority, was made possible by the improved financial standing of FHA.
Recalling the precarious financial condition of the Authority at the time his administration assumed office, the Managing Director noted that the situation has been reversed through discipline, dedication and effective management. He stated that FHA, which previously depended largely on government subventions, has now become financially stable despite being outside budgetary appropriation.
“Through improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), the Authority has not only stood on its feet but is now contributing to the Federation Account,” he said.
Looking ahead, Hon. Ojo declared 2026 as a year of massive housing construction for the Authority. He announced that one of the major milestones for the year would be the commissioning of the FHA Housing Estate in Bwari, Abuja, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
In their separate remarks, the Executive Directors in charge of Estate Management Services, Projects Implementation, and Housing Finance and Accounts unanimously praised the Managing Director’s multilateral leadership style, describing it as inclusive and team-driven. They noted that this approach has fostered unity among the management team and encouraged staff buy-in for the ongoing reforms. The Executive Directors also commended staff for their openness and adaptability to the new direction of the Authority.
The retreat featured resource persons drawn from diverse professional backgrounds, including Prof. Adetunji Oso (SAN), Prof. Josiah Oladere Babalola, Gbadegedin Omotayo Gbede, and Prof. Felix Kayode Omole. The facilitators delivered insightful presentations on eight key areas critical to the Authority’s mandate, including contracts and land documentation, dispute prevention and housing laws, quality assurance, maintenance culture, use of durable materials, climate-resilient infrastructure, branding, customer trust, digital marketing and public perception.
Participants described the retreat as timely and impactful, noting that it provided a platform for reflection, capacity building and strategic alignment as the Authority positions itself to deliver on its housing mandate in 2026 and beyond.
