Arrest cultist, drug dealer, motorcycle snatchers, murder suspect; recover gun, cartridges, weapons, illicit drugs
The Delta State Police Command has recorded a series of major operational breakthroughs across the state, arresting several criminal suspects and recovering dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in a renewed offensive against crime and criminality.
The successes, achieved within days of the assumption of duty of the new Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, underscore the Command’s resolve to strengthen proactive, intelligence-led policing and reassure residents of improved security.
Cultist/Armed Robber Arrested with Gun, Cartridges
In a confidence-building patrol operation carried out by operatives of Ekpan Division in the early hours of Friday, January 10, 2026, police arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber at Hausa Market, Ubeji.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the patrol team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), CSP Labe Joseph, sighted about five suspected hoodlums loitering suspiciously at about 1:20 a.m. On noticing the police, the suspects fled in different directions.
The operatives pursued them and successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Gift Ojulowo, a 30-year-old male resident of New Layout, Ubeji. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges concealed in his trousers.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to being a member of the Aye Confraternity. He is currently in police custody, while investigations continue and efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
Raiders Unit Arrest Drug Suspect, Recover Laughing Gas
In a separate operation, operatives of the Command’s Raiders Unit arrested a suspected drug dealer and recovered a large quantity of illicit substances.
The operation, which took place on January 8, 2026, at about 1:30 p.m., was based on credible intelligence and coordinated under the supervision of the Commander of the Raiders Unit, SP Akanya Agbogha. The suspect, Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, a 43-year-old male, was arrested with thirty-six bottles of illicit drugs popularly known as “laughing gas” (nitrous oxide).
Police said the suspect and the exhibits are in custody, while investigations are ongoing to trace the source and distribution network of the illicit substance.
Motorcycle Snatchers Busted in Agbor
The Agbor Division of the Command also recorded a breakthrough with the arrest of two notorious armed robbers who specialised in snatching motorcycles from unsuspecting members of the public.
The suspects, identified as Owakwe Chuks (37) and Bright Moses (32), were arrested on January 4, 2026, at about 10:45 p.m., following discreet investigations into a reported armed robbery case of December 24, 2025.
The operation was led by the DPO of Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa. Items recovered from the suspects include a hammer allegedly used to inflict injuries on victims, a short knife, a brown face mask, a face cap, and a handset.
Murder Suspect Arrested in Ogwashi-Uku
Meanwhile, operatives of Ogwashi-Uku Division arrested a murder suspect following the stabbing death of a 20-year-old man in the area.
Police said a report was received on January 8, 2025, at about 7:31 a.m., that the victim was stabbed to death while asleep at Poly Road, near Adaigbo Filling Station, at about 3:20 a.m. the same day.
The DPO, CSP Israel Okoyomon, promptly mobilised detectives to the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was allegedly stabbed by his brother, identified as Aliyu Haman, a 20-year-old male. The suspect was arrested, and the weapon used in committing the crime was recovered.
The corpse was evacuated and deposited at Odua Mortuary, Ogwashi-Uku, for autopsy, while investigations continue.
CP Reassures Residents
Reacting to the series of arrests, CP Aina Adesola reaffirmed that the protection of lives and property remains the top priority of the Command. He assured residents of Delta State that the police would continue to pursue criminals relentlessly through intelligence-driven operations, proactive patrols, and visible policing.
The Command also urged members of the public to continue to support the police with timely and credible information to enhance security across the state.
