In a swift response to the growing concerns over security breaches within Sagamu and its adjoining communities, the Sagamu Local Government Authority on Wednesday convened an emergency security meeting aimed at restoring public confidence and safeguarding residents during the festive season and beyond.
The meeting, held at the council secretariat, brought together all major security agencies operating within the local government area. It was presided over by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Isiaka Salami, who represented the Executive Chairman currently away on official engagement.
Addressing the gathering, Comrade Salami emphasized that the safety of residents remains the council’s top priority. He noted that recent incidents of burglary, street disturbances, and other criminal activities necessitated immediate and coordinated action.
After extensive deliberations, the security council announced a set of resolutions designed to curb crime and maintain order across the local government:
Restricted Operation Hours: Motorcycles and tricycles are now permitted to operate only between 6am and 8pm daily. This measure aims to regulate late-night movements often exploited for criminal purposes.
Ban on Fireworks: The use of knockouts and fireworks throughout the festive period has been banned to prevent panic, reduce fire hazards, and curb their misuse by mischief-makers.
Night Events Require Clearance: All all-night gatherings, social functions, and religious activities must obtain official clearance from the Area Divisional Police Headquarters before proceeding.
Stronger Community Security: CDC and CDA Chairmen across Sagamu have been directed to strengthen partnerships with recognized local security groups to boost grassroots surveillance.
Report Suspicious Activity: Residents were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report unusual behaviours or potential threats to security agencies. Anyone found spreading rumours or false information, particularly online, with the intent to cause fear or disrupt peace will face prosecution.
The council also disclosed that the Joint Security Task Force has commenced 24-hour patrol operations, with strict orders to arrest violators of the new directives.
Comrade Salami appealed to residents to cooperate fully with the new measures, stressing that community safety is a shared responsibility.
“Sagamu can only remain peaceful and secure when we all play our part. If you see something, say something,” he said.
As the festive season approaches, the local government reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring that residents go about their activities without fear.
