Abeokuta, Ogun State – The political landscape of Ogun State was dramatically reshaped this afternoon as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a momentous reception in Abeokuta, officially welcoming Hon. Kunle Akinlade and a host of other prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) into its fold. The event, held at Ake Abeokuta, the state capital, saw Amoran, The Articulate Motorcycle Owners & Riders Association of Nigeria, shine prominently, with its chairman, Otunba Taofeek Sokoya, leading the group's participation in this significant political realignment.
The atmosphere was electrified as His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, Governor of Ogun State, led the official reception. Among the key opposition figures welcomed were Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, who served as the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the PDP in the 2023 Ogun gubernatorial election, and Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, the immediate past PDP State Chairman. They were joined by hundreds of their loyal supporters from both the PDP and APM,
signaling a major political shift in the state.
Notably, Hon. Lukman Olajide Atobatele, the sole House of Assembly member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ogun Central Senatorial District, representing Abeokuta South Constituency 1, also officially dumped the umbrella party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the event.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Abiodun described the development as a “bold step in the right direction” and a reaffirmation of the growing confidence in the APC’s inclusive leadership and vision for a prosperous Ogun State.
“This is not just about individuals joining a party. It’s about progressives coming together to build a stronger, more united Ogun State. We are excited to welcome Hon. Akinlade, Hon. Ogundele, and everyone returning home to where they truly belong,” the Governor stated.
The ceremony, which attracted a large crowd of party faithful and stakeholders, is expected to further solidify the APC’s political base ahead of future elections. This momentous occasion is seen as a pivotal step in strengthening the party and moving Ogun State forward.
