MOSOP Demands Probe Into Alleged Looting Of $300m Ogoni Development Fund

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has urged President Bola Tinubu to launch an investigation into the alleged diversion of $300 million (₦480 billion) earmarked for compensation and development in Ogoniland.

MOSOP President, Fegalo Nsuke, on Wednesday disclosed that the funds, part of an out-of-court settlement with the NNPC, were misappropriated by individuals in Ogoni and Rivers State.

He called the alleged looting “a genocide against the Ogoni people,” saying the money could have provided vital infrastructure like clean water, roads, and education.

Nsuke, who initially doubted the allegations, said new evidence now warrants a formal probe. He stressed that only a full investigation and recovery of the funds can clear the government of complicity.

“Silence is no longer an option,” he said. “The Ogoni people deserve accountability and justice.”

He called on the Tinubu administration to act swiftly, saying the stolen funds must be returned to address decades-old challenges in the region.
