SAGAMU, OGUN STATE — The long-abandoned construction of the Odokekere–Igbosoro–Igode Bridge has received a major boost as work has resumed on the project following renewed intervention by the Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji.

The resumption of construction is being described as a significant step towards restoring a vital link connecting communities around the Odokekere and Igode axis, while also reaffirming the lawmaker’s commitment to continuity and the completion of development projects initiated under her predecessor, the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, popularly known as Ijaya.

For several years, the abandoned bridge project had remained a source of concern to residents and other road users in the area. Farmers, motorists, traders, business owners and residents who depend on the route have faced difficulties arising from the poor state of the crossing, with the situation affecting movement and economic activities within the communities.

However, the latest development has brought renewed optimism as contractors have now returned to the site and commenced construction activities.

According to the Media Office of Hon. Dr. Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji, the development is a practical demonstration of the lawmaker’s determination to ensure that projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to constituents are not allowed to remain abandoned.

The lawmaker had, from the commencement of her tenure, pledged to pay attention to important projects initiated during the tenure of her predecessor and to ensure that the development efforts of the late Ijaya continue to receive appropriate attention.

The Igbosoro Bridge is one of the projects identified for such continuity.

The renewed construction therefore goes beyond the physical rehabilitation of a bridge, as it represents an approach to representation anchored on continuity, accountability and responsiveness to the needs of the people.

Hon. Dr. Ayoola-Elegbeji’s intervention also highlights her stated respect for the legacy of the late Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, whose contributions to the development of the constituency remain significant to many residents.

Rather than treating previous projects as the responsibility of a past administration alone, the lawmaker has adopted the position that viable projects with direct benefits to the people should be sustained and completed irrespective of when they were initiated.

The Odokekere–Igbosoro–Igode Bridge is particularly important because of its potential impact on movement and local economic activities. Improved access along the route is expected to make transportation easier for residents, support farmers in moving their produce and provide a more reliable connection for businesses and other users of the road.

Residents of the affected communities are consequently expected to benefit from improved connectivity once the project is completed.

The resumption also comes as part of Hon. Dr. Ayoola-Elegbeji’s broader focus on development interventions that have a direct bearing on the welfare and everyday experiences of constituents across Ikenne, Sagamu and Remo North Federal Constituency.

The lawmaker has maintained that effective representation should not be measured only by legislative activities in Abuja but also by the ability to attract, support and facilitate projects that respond to the practical needs of the people at the grassroots.

For the people around Odokekere and Igode, the return of contractors to the Igbosoro Bridge site is therefore a development that carries both practical and symbolic significance.

It signals the revival of a project that had remained dormant for years while reinforcing the message that important development initiatives should not be abandoned because of changes in political representation.

The development further strengthens the narrative of continuity between the administration of the late Ijaya and the current representation of the federal constituency under Hon. Dr. Princess Ayoola-Elegbeji.

With construction now underway, attention will naturally shift to the timely and quality completion of the project so that residents can fully enjoy the benefits of the restored link.

Hon. Dr. Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, through her Media Office, has reassured constituents that she remains focused on meaningful representation and on ensuring that projects capable of improving the lives of the people receive the necessary attention.

The revival of the Igbosoro Bridge has consequently emerged as another notable chapter in the development story of the constituency — one built around continuity, respect for legacy and practical intervention.

For the people of Odokekere, Igbosoro and Igode, the message is clear: a long-abandoned bridge is moving again, and with it comes renewed hope for easier movement, stronger economic connections and improved community development.

This is continuity with purpose.
This is representation with results.
This is the Elegbeji commitment to Remo development.
