The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election.
In a statement on Wednesday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, announced that political campaigns would officially commence on June 11.
A total of 16 political parties submitted their candidates’ details (Form EC9) by the May 12 deadline. In accordance with Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) conducted a fresh primary to replace its initial candidate, while four parties, Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), substituted their deputy governorship candidates.
INEC noted that the final list includes two female governorship candidates, nominated by AAC and the National Rescue Movement (NRM) and six female deputy candidates from Accord, APC, APP, BP, LP, and ZLP.
No persons with disabilities are on the candidate list. The age range of candidates is between 36 and 71.
With the final list now published, no substitutions are permitted except in the case of a candidate’s death, as provided under Section 34(1) of the Electoral Act.
Campaigns will run from June 11 to midnight of November 6, in line with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act.
INEC warned political parties and candidates to avoid hate speech, physical violence, and destruction of opponents’ materials.
The Commission also emphasized equal access to public facilities and media for all parties during the campaign period.
