US May Close Six Embassies In Africa Under Trump’s New Plan

A leaked State Department document reveals that the Trump administration is contemplating the closure of nearly 30 US diplomatic missions worldwide, including six embassies in Africa: Central African Republic, Eritrea, Gambia, Lesotho, Republic of Congo, and South Sudan.

The plan, which also includes shutting down consulates in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean, aims to streamline US foreign operations and cut costs. The affected African embassies’ duties would be transferred to neighboring countries.

There is concern that this move could weaken US influence on the continent, especially as China expands its diplomatic reach.

The proposal awaits approval from Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and no official confirmation has been made.
