
Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, has vowed to immortalise Christian Chukwu, the revered footballer and coach who passed away at 74 on April 12, 2025, at the Niger Foundation Hospital.
During a condolence visit on Thursday, Mbah described Chukwu as “a household name who inspires many young people” and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to honouring his memory.
“We are here to assure the family that this loss is not just theirs, this is our collective loss,” Mbah stated.
The governor was accompanied by the Speaker of the House of Assembly and the Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development. He prayed for strength for the family and the peaceful repose of Chukwu’s soul.
Chukwu’s passing has drawn tributes nationwide, with condolence registers opened in his honour at key state locations.
