Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a brutal overnight assault on Dabna village in the Yadul/Dugwaba District of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State, leaving a trail of destruction from 10pm Friday to 3am Saturday.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants arrived heavily armed with sophisticated weapons and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), razing homes and valuable properties before hoisting their flag—a chilling symbol of their temporary occupation.
Sources close to the village say Garaha, a larger community just three kilometres away from Dabna, narrowly escaped a similar fate, thanks to the swift intervention of military personnel, mobile police, and local vigilantes, who repelled the attackers before they could advance.
This latest attack comes only three days after a similar assault in Bangah, a suburb of Garaha located near the Sambisa Forest in neighboring Borno State. That earlier incident claimed seven lives and resulted in the destruction of numerous homes and vehicles.
Hong LGA is one of seven local government areas in northern Adamawa State that have been consistently targeted by Boko Haram since the insurgency began. The others include Madagali, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South, Maiha, and Gombi.
These areas have witnessed persistent violence, forcing many families to abandon their ancestral homes and livelihoods.
