The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked reports suggesting that Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is set to resign as part of a deal to resolve the leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Reacting to the speculation, APC spokesperson Seye Oladejo dismissed the claims as false, stating, “To the best of my knowledge, there was no time the arrangement for Obasa to resign came up in the terms of settlement of the crisis.”
However, Oladejo confirmed that Obasa is expected to withdraw the lawsuit he filed in connection with his removal, saying it is “in the interest of renewed peace and progress of the House and the party.”
The meeting aimed to ease tensions and foster unity within the legislature.
Obasa, who was reinstated as Speaker on Monday following Meranda’s resignation, had previously been ousted in January amid allegations of poor leadership, abuse of power, and intimidation of colleagues.
He strongly rejected his removal, arguing that due process was not followed and denying all financial misappropriation accusations.
The crisis prompted intervention from the Governor’s Advisory Council, chaired by Pa Tajudeen Olusi, along with APC chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos Attorney-General Lawal Pedro, and other key party leaders, who worked behind the scenes to broker peace.
