The West African-Youth Council (WEST-AFRICAN- YC; WAYC) has honored fifteen prominent Nigerians, with honorary ambassadorial awards.
The award ceremony was held at the premises of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo state on Saturday.
One of the 15 prominent award recipients was the President of the leading youth group in Ogun state, Ogun Youth Advocate for Social Development (OGYASD), Comrade Oluseyi Alamu “for his excellent leadership roles in Ogun state.
The awardees, according to the council, were selected from different walks of life for their contributions to humanity.
The West African-Youth Council (WEST-AFRICAN- YC; WAYC) was established in 2014 as a youth arm of the ECOWAS Commission.
Its objective is to minimize the demanding challenges of youths in order to discharge efficient service delivery with the sole aim of engaging and promoting regional economic co-operation and integrations between 15 countries with different countries.
A nomination letter sighted by the media and signed by the President/Chairperson of (WAYC), H.E (Amb) Emmanuel S William, stated that Alamu’s nomination was borne out of his incredible contributions to community development and social services that has bettered the lives of less privileged ones in the society.
Parts of the letter read “We write to you on behalf of the WEST AFRICA YOUTH COUNCIL (WAYC) and our partners across the continent to congratulate you on your accomplishments so far as a dedicated and inspiring youth leader and above all a leader with passion for youth and societal development.
“As young leaders, we are proud of you as a committed and dedicated youth leader . We celebrate your excellence in leadership and integrity you have built over time, identifying opportunities and building relationships to set achievable goals.
“In a bid to contribute our quota to the actualization of the dreams of young leaders in Africa; and to further propagate our message to the entire world, we select young achievers such as yourself and elevate their status globally by appointing them into the West Africa Youth Council of the ECOWAS and also celebrate and award them’.
Speaking with newsmen after the event, Alamu described the award as timely, stating that the honor came at a time when he yearns for motivation to further carry out his social responsibilities in Ogun state.
For alamu, with the ambassadorial award, the Ogun Youth Advocate for Social Development (OGYASD) is encouraged to further serve as the voice of voiceless youths in Ogun and Nigeria.
His words “I must confess, this honour is coming at a time when I need motivation to further perform my social responsibilities role in Ogun through the vehicle of the group I preside over.
“West Africa-Youth Council has given me the motivation I needed through this rare and auspicious award.
“With this, I promise to do more for the youths of Ogun state, Nigeria, Africa and humanity at large. I will not relent in my fight to make sure that the youth enjoy the dividend of democracy and are given fair consideration wherever they find themselve.
