Leo DaSilva, the former Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija) housemate, has alleged that organ harvesting is booming in Nigeria.

The reality star was reacting to a petition asking the government to address rising cases of missing persons in the country.

The petition, initiated by Ebun Alaka-Coker, and addressed to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), said “over 25,000 Nigerians are missing.”

“The disregard displayed by the Nigerian national government, through the lack of investigation or provisions for investigations into missing persons report are in direct breach of human rights,” the petition reads.

“The right to life of the citizens of Nigeria must be respected. Reports of missing people should be taken seriously.”

Reacting to the petition, DaSilva lamented the cases of missing persons, which he claimed were linked to organ harvesting in the country.

The entrepreneur also revealed that someone close to him fell victim to an organ harvesting ring but God saved him.

“There is a organ harvesting ring thriving in Nigeria. Someone close to me has fallen victim and God saved him,” he wrote.

He, however, did not provide further details on the incident.

Conversations around organ harvesting heightened in the country last year after Ike Ekweremadu, former deputy president of the senate, and his wife were arrested by the UK police.

The lawmaker is standing trial for charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

His trial is scheduled to commence fully on May 2, 2023.
