A former member of the House of Representatives in the 7th Assembly, Hon. Rotimi Makinde has commiserated with Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye III and the entire people of Owo and the government of Ondo State over Sunday’s attack at St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, which led to the killing of no fewer than 40 worshippers.
Makinde also condemned the dastardly, mindless and vicious act even as he called on security operatives to fish out those behind the heinous crime and bring them to justice without delay.
Hon. Makinde’s condolence message was contained in a statement he personally signed Monday morning, wherein he expressed shock and sadness over the atrocious killing of innocnent and defenseless worshippers at the Owo Church.
“I am grossly pained over the news of the gruesome attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo, which led to the death of many worshippers on Sunday, June 5, 2022.
“With heavy heart, I condole with the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, the people of Owo and the government of Ondo State. I also join all well-meaning Nigerians in condemning this unprovoked attack at a worship centre and call on security operatives to intensify efforts towards arresting the culprits and bringing them to justice.
“However, we should move beyond condemning the act but to add our voice to the call that security agencies across board must be more proactive and more engaging in intelligence gathering, processing and management. They also need to deploy technologies including drones to aid their operations and as well change their tactics so as to beat terrorists to their games.
“This attack is not just barbaric, senseless and despicable, it is an affront on the Church of Christ and a gratuitous sacrilege to say the least. I stand in solidarty with Olowo of Owo, the good and peace-loving people of Ondo State and the government at this trying time.
“I also extend my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, the entire Catholic Church and the people of Owo Kingdom. We should not just condemn the attack or commiserate with the victims family and the state but to also think deeply and offer useful information that could lead the security agents to fish out the perpetrators.
“I would also suggest that we declare a 3-day "Operation Comb the Elnvironment", a situation where we would all be off work in Yoruba land and comb all the forests around us with bikes, vehicles and each state should provide Willing, committed and loyal volunteers that will never compromise.
“Similarly, technologies can also be deployed and as well be manned by those who can effectively and efficiently manage them, for example the use of surveillance drones, and these individuals can also work with Amotekun corps, Agbekoya and hunters with serious intention to fish out those deplorable enemies that have infilterated us with vicious plans to wreck havoc." Makinde stated.
