The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) and the Centre for Democracy and Development’s (CDD) yesterday challenged the Department of State Security to name those it accused of plotting to destabilise Nigeria.

In separate interviews with Daily Trust, CDD Director Idayat Hassan and CISLAC Executive Director Auwal Musa Rafsanjani alleged that the present administration’s antics could not work.

Rafsanjani, who is also the Head of Transparency International (TI) Nigeria, alleged that the DSS’ statement showed that those in charge of the organisation were not interested in the safety of the country and the wellbeing of citizens.

“They (DSS) should name those they accused of planning to destabilise Nigeria so that Nigerians can know. This blackmail cannot work. They are blackmailing people to stifle their fundamental rights. But they cannot succeed blackmailing the CSIOs and the media,” Rafsanjani said.

On her part, Hassan alleged:“I think the government is afraid of some successful protests in parts of the world. But this government is not acting or doing things that would not push the citizens to peaceful protests. Their comment is an antic to restrict the civic space.”
