The Nation reports that some governors had planned to get Oshiomhole out of the seat.

He was, however, saved by the governor of Borno state, Babagana Zulum, as he was said to have thwarted the plot.

The report named the following governors as those who plotted Oshiomhole’s sack.

1.Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti

2. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna

3. Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa

4. Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi

The report said they had started mobilising other APC governors when Zulum broke the plot.

According to the report, in scuttling their plan, Zulum informed President Buhari that the four governors wanted to hijack the ruling party’s leadership so as to support one of them to take over the presidency in 2023.

”It is all about 2023. They want a pliant person as chairman, someone they can manipulate. That is why they want Oshiomhole out,” Zulum was quoted to have told Buhari.

Accordingly, the president had prior knowledge of the plot before the meeting, which many of the governors learnt about a day before it took place.

El-Rufai was said to have spoken when Buhari asked for their mission. He was said to have told the president that they need Oshiomhole out because of incompetence.

In his reaction at the meeting, Zulum was said to have asked: ”Who are the APC governors with you? Where and when did we meet to agree that the national chairman should resign?”

He reportedly told the president not to trust the four governors.

Zulum reportedly told Buhari that Bagudu of Kebbi once pleaded with him to support former Zamfara governor, Abdulazeez Yari, to replace Oshiomhole. He then challenged Bagudu to deny it.

“Mr President, you see all these governors seeking the removal of Oshiomhole are doing so because they are aspiring to be President in 2023,” Zulum reportedly told Buhari, who later left them.

While the anti-Oshiomhole are said to have continued with mobilisation and trying to get 120 top members of the APC to their sides, those in support of the national chairman are fighting back.

They include: Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Prince Dapo Abiodun (Ogun) and Gboyega Oyetola (Osun).

that the state governors are already considering the former governor of Zamfara state , Abdulaziz Yari, as Oshiomhole’s successor.
