The Federal Capital Territory, Directorate of Road Traffic Services (FCT-DRTS), also known as Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIO), said it has concluded plans to commence clampdown on road unworthy vehicles in the territory.
In an interview with newsmen, the director of FCT-DRTS, Engineer Wadata Aliyu Bodinga, explained that the operation, tagged: ‘Operation Giraffe’, is part of the efforts of the directorate to restore sanity on FCT routes.
Bodinga disclosed that, as part of the exercise, about 400 workforce of the directorate have been deployed to ease traffic flow in the city centres and the suburbs, just as he warned motorists against violating traffic rules.
The director explained further that the essence of the operation was to eliminate vehicles whose particulars are not captured in DRTS data base, those without FCT plate number, as well as those being used for commercial purposes without Abuja colour.
He cautioned motorists against dealing with touts and to visit any DRTS office for the registration of their vehicle and to patronise DRTS computerised centre for vehicle checks. Bodinga also assured motorists that DRTS would introduce Google application in its services to give members the opportunity to ascertain the validity and authenticity of their documents whenever they are arrested.
He further stated that the directorate is making concerted efforts to establish area commands in Kwali, Abaji and Karshi to make the FCT residents feel their impact in terms of services delivery, traffic control and management.
