By Oluborode Emmanuel Opeyemi Kenny Adewole

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected thief and recovered a motorcycle and a generator believed to have been stolen in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state, following a swift police response to information provided by a vigilant member of the public.

The operation, which took place on the morning of Sunday, October 25, 2026, led to the arrest of one Adam Muhammed, while a second suspect reportedly escaped during an attempt to evade arrest. The police said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplice and bring all those connected with the alleged crime to justice.

The successful operation, according to the Command, underscores the importance of community participation, timely intelligence and prompt police intervention in preventing criminal activities and protecting lives and property.

Vigilant Motorist Raises Alarm

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. when a motorist travelling along the Onigbedu–Itori Road noticed an unregistered tricycle conveying a grey Haojue Lady motorcycle and a Firman generator, with two passengers on board.

Suspecting that the items might have been stolen, the motorist reportedly took the initiative to alert the police while keeping the tricycle in sight as it proceeded towards Complex Junction, Itori, in the direction of Papalanto.

The information was immediately acted upon by operatives of the Ewekoro Divisional Police Headquarters, who moved to intercept the tricycle and investigate the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the items.

The police response resulted in the interception of the tricycle. However, the two occupants allegedly attempted to escape when they realised that the operatives were closing in on them.

Following a hot chase, the police succeeded in apprehending one of the suspects, identified as Adam Muhammed, while the other occupant reportedly fled the scene.

Recovered Items Linked to Reported Theft

Preliminary investigations have reportedly linked the recovered Haojue Lady motorcycle and Firman generator to a theft incident earlier reported in Itori.

The suspect is currently in police custody as detectives intensify investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, determine the alleged roles of the individuals involved and identify any other persons who may have participated in the suspected theft.

The Command also confirmed that efforts were being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

The recovery of the two items is expected to assist investigators in establishing the facts of the case and facilitating any necessary steps towards their identification and return to their rightful owner, subject to the outcome of police investigations.

The police have yet to disclose further details about the original theft report or the circumstances under which the motorcycle and generator were allegedly taken.

CP Ojajuni Commends Operatives, Vigilant Resident

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, commended the operatives of the Ewekoro Division for their prompt response, determination and effective use of information supplied by the public.

The Commissioner emphasised that timely intelligence and decisive police action remain essential tools in preventing crime, disrupting criminal activities and safeguarding the property of residents across the state.

He also praised the motorist whose vigilance and willingness to report suspicious movements contributed to the interception of the tricycle and the arrest of the suspect.

Ojajuni noted that members of the public have an important role to play in strengthening community safety, explaining that suspicious activities reported promptly can provide security agencies with the opportunity to intervene before criminal acts are successfully carried out.

Police Reassure Residents of Commitment to Security

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command's commitment to proactive policing, sustained patrols and prompt responses to credible intelligence across Ogun State.

He stressed that the police would continue to take necessary measures to deny suspected criminals the opportunity to operate freely and to ensure that persons found culpable of criminal offences are brought before the law.

He further urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious movements, unusual activities and suspected criminal conduct to the nearest police station or through recognised police communication channels.

In a message underscoring the importance of public cooperation, the Commissioner stated: “Timely report can make the difference between a successful crime and its prevention.”

The Command maintained that effective collaboration between security agencies and law-abiding residents remains crucial to the prevention of crime and the protection of property.

The incident in Itori serves as a reminder that community vigilance, when combined with prompt action by security operatives, can help disrupt suspected criminal activities and support efforts to make communities safer.

The Ogun State Police Command urged residents not to ignore suspicious situations but to report them promptly, while avoiding unnecessary confrontation with suspected criminals.

The statement was signed by DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, and dated October 25, 2026.
