...Says Accountability, Humility and Genuine Apology May Be More Important Than Prayers for Political Blessings
An unnamed political leader has called on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Ogun State governorship candidate, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, popularly known as Ladi Adebutu, to embrace humility, accountability and reconciliation by apologising to individuals he may have offended in the course of his political and personal engagements.
The political leader made the appeal in an open letter dated Thursday, October 29, 2026, addressed to Adebutu and titled "Dear Political Son."
In the strongly worded letter, the writer cautioned that prayers and fasting should not be used as substitutes for taking responsibility for one's actions, particularly where personal relationships have been damaged through alleged betrayal, dishonesty, unfair treatment or other forms of wrongdoing.
According to the writer, some challenges confronting individuals may require more than spiritual interventions, stressing that genuine reconciliation begins with acknowledging one's mistakes and making efforts to correct the harm caused.
The letter reads in part: "Some problems don't need more prayers. Sometimes they need an apology. Go back and apologise to the innocent people you hurt, the person you betrayed, the person you lied to, the person you treated badly when they didn't deserve it."
The writer further argued that individuals should not continue to hurt others while expecting their circumstances to improve solely through prayers, insisting that personal responsibility remains an important part of resolving conflicts and rebuilding damaged relationships.
Emphasising the need for sincerity and accountability, the political leader urged Adebutu to acknowledge any wrongdoing, apologise where necessary and make genuine efforts to repair relationships that may have suffered as a result of his actions.
The letter stated that while prayers remain important to many people, they should not become an excuse for avoiding responsibility or refusing to make amends.
Taking a direct swipe at Adebutu's political ambitions, the writer declared that before seeking another opportunity to become governor, the PDP chieftain should reflect on his past relationships and consider whether there are individuals deserving of an apology.
"Prayer is important to many people, but prayer should not become an excuse to avoid responsibility.
"Ladi Adebutu, not all problems need prayers and fasting.
"Before you ask for another blessing to become Governor in year 2075, ask yourself if there's someone you need to apologise to," the letter further stated.
The writer maintained that certain doors could only be reopened through accountability, humility and a genuine willingness to admit wrongdoing, rather than through continued prayers without corresponding efforts at reconciliation.
It added that saying "I'm sorry, I was wrong" could sometimes be more meaningful than seeking another political or personal breakthrough without addressing unresolved grievances.
The letter concluded with an appeal for Adebutu to demonstrate humility and take responsibility for his actions, describing genuine apologies and reconciliation as essential steps towards rebuilding trust and restoring relationships.
The author signed off as "Your leader," describing himself as "Most Non-Confrontational" and "Most Non-Controversial."
Although the letter did not identify the individuals allegedly affected or provide specific details of the incidents referenced, its message centred on personal accountability, forgiveness and the importance of making peace with people one may have offended.
The intervention also comes against the backdrop of ongoing political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections in Ogun State, where Adebutu remains a prominent opposition figure.
