......Celebrates Mrs Faturoti Funmilayo Bukola for Courage, Dedication to Pupils; Pledges Continued Support for Education in Ipokia

An award recipient honoured by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ipokia Local Government Branch, has dedicated his Distinguished Educational Support Award to Mrs Faturoti Funmilayo Bukola, a serving headteacher whose courage and commitment to duty helped sustain educational activities at Ipokia Local Government Primary School, Ilepa, Gbodojego, during a period of political and leadership crisis in the community.

The award recipient, Mr Mawutin Imoleayo, an architect by training and a proud alumnus of the school, described the recognition as not only a personal honour but also a call to intensify his contributions to educational development across Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He made the declaration while delivering his appreciation speech at the rescheduled Teachers' Day celebration organised by the NUT, Ipokia Local Government Branch, at Ojuroko Primary School, Idiroko.

He expressed profound gratitude to Almighty God, the leadership of the union, led by Mr Ibirinde, and the entire executive, as well as headteachers and teachers whose daily sacrifices continue to shape the future of children and the nation.

He described the award as particularly meaningful because it came from the professional body representing teachers, whom he characterised as nation-builders working tirelessly to provide knowledge, guidance and opportunities for future generations.

According to him, the recognition was priceless and would remain a cherished reminder of the importance of supporting teachers and strengthening educational institutions at the grassroots.

Honouree Recognises Teacher's Courage During Community Crisis

Explaining his decision to dedicate the award to Mrs Faturoti Funmilayo Bukola, the recipient recalled the difficult period when Gbodojego community faced a deep political and leadership crisis that threatened the continued presence of its only government institution, the local primary school.

He explained that the crisis generated concerns over the possible relocation of the school from the community, a development that would have had far-reaching consequences for children and families who depended on the institution for access to basic education.

The honouree noted that the situation created tension and uncertainty, with legitimate fears that the community could lose a vital public institution that had served generations of pupils.

Amid the uncertainty, he said, Mrs Faturoti, who was serving as headteacher at the school at the time, remained committed to her responsibilities despite the difficult circumstances.

Rather than abandon the pupils or allow the crisis to undermine teaching and learning, she continued to discharge her duties, helping to ensure that educational activities went on and the children remained connected to their school.

He praised her for choosing service over personal comfort at a time when the situation in the community was challenging.

According to him, her commitment helped preserve the school's role in the community and contributed to its continued existence as an important centre of learning for children in Gbodojego.

He said the school, Ipokia Local Government Primary School, Ilepa, Gbodojego, remains standing today and continues to serve as a foundation for the education of future generations.

'Mama, This Award Is Yours'

In an emotional tribute, the award recipient declared that the honour belonged to Mrs Faturoti and, by extension, to teachers who continue to make sacrifices in underserved and remote communities.

Addressing the teacher, he said: "Mama, this award is yours. I receive it on your behalf and on behalf of all teachers who sacrifice in remote villages where there is no glamour, only duty."

The statement underscored his belief that the contribution of teachers should be measured not only by formal recognition but also by their willingness to remain steadfast in difficult circumstances to secure the educational future of children.

He described Mrs Faturoti as a woman of uncommon courage, a mother, a teacher and a heroine whose actions deserved public appreciation.

Her dedication, he said, demonstrated that the future of a community could depend significantly on the commitment of individuals who put the welfare of children and the interests of society above personal convenience.

The tribute also highlighted the often-overlooked challenges faced by teachers serving in rural communities, where inadequate resources, difficult working conditions and local challenges can place additional burdens on their responsibilities.

The honouree called for greater recognition of such teachers whose quiet sacrifices help sustain educational opportunities for children in communities that might otherwise be left behind.

Architect Pledges Continued Support for Education

Reaffirming his commitment to educational development, the award recipient said the recognition would motivate him to do more for schools, teachers and pupils across Ipokia Local Government.

Speaking as a proud product of Ipokia Local Government Primary School, Ilepa, Gbodojego, he stressed that his educational background remained an important part of his personal journey and a reminder of the transformative power of basic education.

He maintained that education remains one of the most effective instruments for creating opportunities, reducing social inequalities and enabling children from different backgrounds to realise their potential.

"Education remains the only equalizer between the son of a nobody and the son of a somebody," he declared.

He pledged to continue supporting education in his community and the wider local government, emphasising the need to sustain investments in schools and encourage initiatives that improve access to quality learning.

His commitment, he explained, was informed by his experience as a former pupil of a public primary school and his conviction that every child deserves an opportunity to receive an education capable of opening doors to a better future.

The award recipient's message also reinforced the importance of community involvement in educational development, noting that the responsibility for building a strong educational system should not rest on teachers and government alone.

Commends NUT for Recognising Educational Support

The honouree further commended the NUT, Ipokia Local Government Branch, for recognising individuals who contribute to educational development and for celebrating the dedication of teachers.

He acknowledged the union's role in bringing teachers together to reflect on their responsibilities, celebrate their achievements and draw attention to the importance of their profession in national development.

He also expressed appreciation to the branch leadership under Mr Ibirinde and the entire executive for finding him worthy of the Distinguished Educational Support Award.

He said the recognition would remain a source of encouragement and a reminder that efforts to support education are meaningful and deserve sustained commitment.

Addressing teachers collectively, he praised their role in shaping the character, knowledge and aspirations of children, describing them as essential partners in building a prosperous society.

He urged society to appreciate teachers not merely for the lessons they deliver in classrooms but also for the values they instil, the confidence they build in young people and the opportunities they help create for future generations.

Call for Greater Recognition of Teachers' Sacrifices

The dedication of the award to Mrs Faturoti Funmilayo Bukola brought a strong community-focused dimension to the celebration, drawing attention to the contribution of individual teachers to the survival and development of public schools.

The story of Ipokia Local Government Primary School, Ilepa, Gbodojego, as recounted by the award recipient, illustrates the importance of protecting educational institutions from challenges that could disrupt children's access to learning.

It also highlights the value of teachers who remain committed to their responsibilities even when circumstances become difficult.

For the honouree, the award was therefore more than a personal achievement. It was an opportunity to celebrate the wider teaching profession, recognise a teacher whose service left a lasting impression on his community, and renew his commitment to educational advancement.

He concluded by expressing gratitude to the NUT, Ipokia Local Government Branch, and all teachers for their contributions to society.

He prayed for God's continued blessings upon the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ipokia Local Government and Ogun State.

The celebration ended with a message of appreciation for teachers and a renewed call for individuals and communities to support education as a foundation for sustainable development.
